You might be thinking that times are bleak, so take a break and check out these wagon photos recently taken north of the Arctic Circle by our friends at Volvo. They feature the newest Volvo Cross Country variant — the EX30 — and the first Cross Country variant — the V70.

Cross Country is Volvo’s term for lifted wagon

On the roughest of Swedish roads, one vehicle type reigns supreme. And it’s not the SUV, it’s the wagon. The Cross Country wagon.

Volvo says the EX30 is an SUV, making the EX30 Cross Country its first SUV Cross Country. I would dispute that with Volvo’s marketing department, as the EX30 shown here is clearly not an SUV sitting next to the V70 wagon Cross Country.

It’s easy to wax nostalgic about the boxy V70 Cross Country, but the EX30 Cross Country is the future of Cross Country.
