The new Mercedes-Benz G 580 with EQ Technology marks the debut of the first fully electric variant of the G-Class, combining traditional design elements with modern electric technology. The vehicle features a modified ladder frame to accommodate electric drive components, including four independently controlled electric motors near each wheel. This setup delivers a total output of 579 horsepower and 859 lb-ft of torque, supporting advanced off-road capabilities and specific driving functionalities such as G-TURN and G-STEERING.
The G 580 is equipped with a 116-kWh lithium-ion battery integrated into the ladder frame, which enhances the vehicle’s low center of gravity and rigidity. The battery’s robust, torsion-resistant shell and the underbody protection, made from mixed materials including carbon, provide resistance against environmental elements. Aerodynamic improvements include a raised hood and flared rear wheel arches with air curtains.
Inside, the G 580 features the latest MBUX infotainment system with dual 12.3-inch displays for the driver and central multimedia interface. It also includes luxury amenities like a Nappa leather steering wheel and advanced safety systems. For 2025, the model will be available in the U.S. exclusively as the EDITION ONE special edition, which offers additional features and unique design elements.
The electric G-Class maintains and enhances the off-road capabilities of its predecessor, now optimized for electric mobility. Its intelligent drive system and comprehensive torque distribution, facilitated by virtual differential locks and torque vectoring, promise high stability across various terrains.
