Honda has announced the return of the Prelude nameplate for the 2026 model year. The new sports coupe will feature a hybrid-electric powertrain paired with chassis hardware derived from the Civic Type R. The vehicle is expected to arrive at U.S. dealerships in late fall 2025.
The 2026 Prelude uses Honda’s two-motor hybrid-electric system, which combines a 2.0-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine with two electric motors. The system produces a combined 200 horsepower and 232 lb-ft of torque. The coupe also debuts Honda’s new S+ Shift system, a drive mode designed to simulate a performance transmission with rev-matched downshifts and enhanced engine sound.
Built on a platform that integrates Civic Type R chassis components, the Prelude includes a dual-axis strut front suspension, adaptive dampers, and Brembo four-piston aluminum front brake calipers finished in a Prelude-specific blue. Four selectable drive modes—Comfort, GT, Sport, and Individual—allow drivers to adjust throttle response, suspension damping, and steering settings.
Inside, the Prelude offers 2+2 seating with a driver-focused cabin layout. Standard equipment includes leather-trimmed front sport seats, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a 9-inch HD touchscreen with Google built-in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, a Bose Centerpoint premium audio system, and a wireless phone charger. The rear seats feature 60/40 split-folding capability, and cargo access is provided through a liftback design.
The exterior incorporates aerodynamic features such as a front under spoiler and a flat rear edge on the liftgate to improve stability. The design includes flush-mounted door handles, a double-bubble roof, and 19-inch Berlina Black alloy wheels. Five paint options are available, including Winter Frost Pearl, Meteorite Gray Metallic, Crystal Black Pearl, Rally Red, and Boost Blue Pearl.
Honda equips the 2026 Prelude with its Honda Sensing suite of driver-assistance features as standard. The system includes collision mitigation braking, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, road departure mitigation, traffic sign recognition, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. The coupe also features Honda’s Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure, front knee airbags, and rear side airbags.
The Prelude expands Honda’s hybrid-electric lineup, joining the Accord, CR-V, and Civic hybrids. Pricing and EPA fuel economy estimates have not yet been announced.
