Jeep is preparing to introduce the 2026 Recon, a fully electric midsize SUV positioned as the brand’s first battery-electric model to receive a Trail Rated designation. The Recon combines an electric propulsion system, a unibody structure on Stellantis’s STLA Large platform, and a variety of off-road-focused features. Production is scheduled to begin early next year, with initial availability in the United States and Canada. The starting MSRP is listed at $65,000, and once the $1,995 destination charge is included, the total starting price is $66,995.
The model launches first in Moab trim, which includes off-road-oriented equipment, standard four-wheel drive, and the brand’s Selec-Terrain traction management system. The Recon uses a 400-volt battery pack rated at 100.5 kWh and dual electric drive modules rated at 250 kW each. Torque output is listed at 620 lb-ft, and total system horsepower is rated at 650 hp. Jeep states that the vehicle can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in as low as 3.6 seconds when in Sport mode. The estimated driving range is up to 230 miles at launch on the Moab trim, with up to 250 miles expected on a later trim.
Electric propulsion and drivetrain
The Recon’s propulsion system integrates two electric drive modules, each combining an electric motor, gearing, and power electronics into a single assembly. The rear drive module uses a 15:1 final drive ratio and includes an electronically locking differential. The front module uses an 11:1 ratio and an open differential design. Automatic front-axle disconnects can decouple the unit to improve energy efficiency in certain driving conditions. The throttle response has been calibrated to provide controlled torque delivery suited for off-road use.
The 100.5-kWh lithium-ion battery uses nickel manganese cobalt chemistry. Charging options include Level 1, Level 2, and DC fast charging. Jeep estimates that a full recharge from 5 to 80 percent requires approximately 52 hours on a 120-volt Level 1 outlet, about 6.8 hours on Level 2, and roughly 28 minutes on a DC fast charger. The Integrated Dual Charging Module supports an estimated 100 miles of added range in 10 minutes when using public DC fast charging.
Off-road capability
Ground clearance is listed at 9.1 inches. The approach, departure, and breakover angles measure 33.8, 33.1, and 23.3 degrees, respectively, when equipped with the standard 33-inch all-terrain tires. The vehicle includes a series of skid plates to protect the battery pack and drive modules. The short-long-arm front suspension and integral-link rear suspension are tuned for both road comfort and off-road durability.
Selec-Terrain includes five drive modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, Sand, and Rock. Rock mode modifies throttle response and traction management settings and adds a hill-hold function designed to prevent rollback during pedal transitions. Selec-Speed Control is also available to maintain a set low speed on inclines or declines. Trailer towing capacity is rated at 3,300 pounds when equipped with the 15:1 rear axle ratio.
Exterior design and features
The Recon adopts upright proportions with wide glass areas and a vertical front fascia. Standard exterior lighting includes LED headlamps, daytime running lamps, fog lamps, and taillamps. The illuminated seven-slot grille, Gloss Black pillars, and optional Gloss Black roof contribute to the model’s overall appearance.
The removable doors, swing-gate glass, and rear quarter glass can be detached without tools. A dual-pane panoramic sunroof is standard, while the Sky One-Touch Power Top is optional. The swing gate carries a full-size spare tire. The Moab trim includes specific exterior finishes such as Titanium fascia inserts, wheel flares, optional rock rails, and a hood graphic. Wheel size is 18 inches with 265/70R18 all-terrain tires. Overall length measures 193.3 inches, width is 87.4 inches at the mirrors, and height reaches up to 74.4 inches. Wheelbase is 112.9 inches.
Interior layout and materials
The interior uses durable synthetic materials, recycled surfaces, and textured elements. The cabin features a horizontal dashboard design with a passenger grab handle and an accessory rail for mounting devices. Storage solutions include a two-tier center console, modular door panels with removable straps, and a cargo area with a reversible mat, tie-down loops, and under-floor storage.
Passenger volume is 111.3 cubic feet, with 38.5 inches of second-row legroom and 30.3 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the second row. With the second row folded, total cargo space expands to 65.9 cubic feet. A front trunk provides 3.0 cubic feet of additional storage. The standard front seats offer eight-way power adjustability. Heated front seats are included, while ventilated front seats and heated second-row seats are available. The Moab trim offers an interior finished in a Joshua Tree–inspired tan color scheme.
Technology and displays
The digital interface includes a 12.3-inch instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch center touchscreen. Physical knobs remain for volume and tuning, while HVAC adjustments are integrated into the touchscreen interface. Uconnect 5C NAV is standard and includes navigation, SiriusXM, wireless device charging, USB-C ports, and a premium Alpine audio system with repositioned speakers designed to maintain audio quality when the doors are removed.
Software features include battery electric-specific pages with charge information, as well as Dynamic Range Mapping that can assist in planning charging stops. The Trails Offroad app is preloaded and provides trail information for the U.S. and Canada, including pitch and roll mapping. The Jeep mobile app supports maintenance scheduling, roadside assistance, and notification services. Amazon Alexa functionality is included.
Safety and driver assistance systems
Standard equipment includes a wide range of safety and active driver-assistance systems. These include a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, Active Driving Assist, lane management, forward collision warning with automatic braking, and intersection collision assistance. Additional features include drowsy driver detection, intelligent speed assist, park assist, autonomous parking functionality, trailer-sway control, and other supplemental systems. A digital rearview mirror is available as part of an optional package.
Summary
The 2026 Jeep Recon serves as the brand’s initial fully electric Trail Rated vehicle. Its dual-motor layout, removable exterior components, specialized drive modes, and charging capabilities position it as an electric alternative to Jeep’s existing off-road products. The combination of off-road geometry, performance specifications, and technology features represents the company’s approach to transitioning its utility vehicles into a battery-electric format while retaining attributes associated with the Jeep brand.
