Kia has introduced the 2026 Sportage hybrid and plug-in hybrid models at the Los Angeles Auto Show. These versions of the compact SUV feature updates in design, technology, and performance, tailored to consumers seeking eco-conscious yet versatile options.

The hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models come with enhancements to their powertrains, delivering more power than previous iterations. The hybrid version combines a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a 47.7 kW motor, producing an estimated 231 horsepower. Meanwhile, the plug-in hybrid integrates the same engine with a more powerful 72 kW motor, offering 268 horsepower. Both vehicles feature a 6-speed automatic transmission and are available with front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, with the PHEV limited to AWD only. The towing capacity for both versions is rated at 2,000 pounds.

The HEV lineup adds two new trims, the S and X-Line. The S trim includes features such as a 12.3-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, heated front seats, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The X-Line trim builds on this by adding a panoramic sunroof, a smart power liftgate, and distinctive black styling elements with 19-inch black alloy wheels.

Interior improvements include the integration of Kia’s Connected Car Navigation Cockpit, featuring a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions also support an optional 10-inch head-up display for real-time information, including navigation and safety alerts. Other standard features include wireless smartphone connectivity, USB-C charging ports, and an available digital key system, allowing remote access and operation via smart devices.

Comfort features exclusive to these electrified variants include optional heated rear seats and new SynTex seating materials. Cargo room measures up to 39.6 cubic feet for the hybrid, while the plug-in hybrid has a reduced capacity due to battery placement.

Advanced safety technology is included across the lineup, such as forward collision avoidance and parking distance warnings. Driver assistance features include highway driving assist and hands-on detection for steering engagement monitoring.

The 2026 Sportage hybrid and plug-in hybrid models are expected in Kia dealerships by the second quarter of 2025. Pricing details will be released closer to the launch.
