Nissan introduces 2026 Rogue Plug-in Hybrid with three-row seating

Nissan is adding a plug-in hybrid variant to its U.S. lineup with the introduction of the 2026 Rogue Plug-in Hybrid. The model represents the brand’s first plug-in hybrid offered in the American market, aligning with the company’s broader electrification strategy under the Re:Nissan business plan. The Rogue Plug-in Hybrid combines a two-motor electric system with a 2.4-liter gasoline engine and introduces three-row seating to the electrified version of Nissan’s compact crossover. The vehicle will be available in SL and Platinum grades and is scheduled to arrive at dealerships in early 2026. The full specification sheet released by Nissan outlines key mechanical, performance, and feature information.

The powertrain incorporates a 20-kWh lithium-ion battery and two electric motors—one assigned to the front axle and one to the rear. The front motor is rated at 114 horsepower and 188 lb-ft of torque, while the rear motor contributes 134 horsepower and 144 lb-ft. These electric components operate alongside a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter inline-four engine producing 131 horsepower and 144 lb-ft. Total system output is 248 horsepower and 332 lb-ft, delivered through a standard all-wheel-drive configuration using single-speed reduction gearboxes for both axles. The dual-motor layout enables electric-only driving as well as on-demand torque distribution for varying road conditions. Charging the 20-kWh battery takes approximately 7.5 hours using a Level 2 charger or around 16 hours on a standard 120-volt household outlet.

Nissan estimates 38 miles of all-electric range and a total combined range of up to 420 miles under EPA methodology. Efficiency ratings include 64 MPGe in combined electric-plus-gas operation and 26 mpg combined when running on gasoline alone. The vehicle offers EV, Save, and Charge modes to control battery usage, and two levels of regenerative braking are available. One mode is activated through the transmission selector’s B position, and an additional one-pedal driving function is available via the e-Step feature. Seven drive modes—Normal, Power, Eco, Tarmac, Gravel, Snow, and Mud—modify throttle response and torque allocation to adapt the system to varying surfaces.

The chassis uses electric power-assisted steering, independent strut front suspension with coil springs, and an independent multi-link rear design. Braking hardware consists of 13.8-inch front and 13.0-inch rear vented discs. All models use 20-inch wheels paired with 255/45R20 all-season tires. Ground clearance is measured at 7.9 inches, and the turning diameter is listed at 36.1 feet. The Rogue Plug-in Hybrid is built on a unibody structure with standard all-wheel drive.

The interior packaging differs from the gasoline Rogue by incorporating three rows of seating, expanding capacity to seven passengers. The second row uses a 40/20/40 split design and folds to allow access to the third row. Third-row seatbacks fold flat when not in use. Cargo volume behind the third row measures 12.78 cubic feet on both SL and Platinum trims. With the third row folded, capacity reaches 30.8 cubic feet, and with both rear rows folded, up to 64.7 cubic feet of space is available. Nissan notes that objects up to 80 inches long can fit when loaded behind the front seats. A motion-activated liftgate is standard.

Interior comfort and convenience features vary by grade but include standard heated front seats, leatherette seating for SL, and leather-appointed seats for Platinum. Both grades include a leather-wrapped steering wheel, while Platinum adds heating for that component as well. The dashboard incorporates a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster on all models, paired with a 9-inch center touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto. A head-up display is standard on Platinum trim. Wireless phone charging is included across the lineup. A Bose nine-speaker audio system is exclusive to Platinum. USB connectivity consists of one USB-A and one USB-C port in front, along with identical ports for rear passengers.

In-cabin climate systems include standard dual-zone automatic temperature control on SL and tri-zone HVAC on Platinum. The Platinum model adds rear-door pull-up sunshades and heated second-row seats. Both trims use acoustically laminated front door glass to reduce external noise. Additional interior elements include power windows with one-touch up/down, remote keyless entry, Nissan Intelligent Key with push-button start, an overhead console with a sunglass holder, and bottle holders in all doors.

The Rogue Plug-in Hybrid includes a full suite of Nissan’s safety and driver-assist technologies. Standard structural and passive components include 11 airbags, including front, side, curtain, and central airbags. Active systems include Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Blind Spot Intervention, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Rear Automatic Braking. Vehicle Dynamic Control and Traction Control System are also standard. ProPILOT Assist with Navi-link provides steering, braking, and acceleration assistance under certain conditions. A 360-degree Intelligent Around View Monitor with Moving Object Detection is standard, along with Intelligent Driver Alertness. The specifications sheet emphasizes that these technologies are assistive and require active driver attention.

Exterior features include LED headlights, LED daytime running lights, LED fog lights, and LED taillights. Rain-sensing front wipers are standard. A power panoramic moonroof is included on the Platinum grade. Gloss-black roof rails are optional on SL and standard on Platinum. The exterior dimensions include an overall length of 185.4 inches, a width of 75.3 inches with mirrors folded, a height of 68.5 inches, and a wheelbase of 106.5 inches. Track width is 62.7 inches in front and 63 inches at the rear. Overall curb weight is listed at 4,674 pounds for the SL grade and 4,751 pounds for the Platinum grade. Maximum towing capacity is rated at 1,500 pounds with 150 pounds of tongue weight when properly equipped.

From a design perspective, Nissan identifies a muscular exterior appearance with dark-painted 20-inch wheels, black mirror caps, and black exterior trim. Inside, the cabin emphasizes physical controls for frequently used functions such as climate settings, audio volume, and drive mode selection. Higher trims include additional soft-touch materials and lighting enhancements. A portable 120-volt charging cable is standard equipment.

The 2026 Rogue Plug-in Hybrid expands Nissan’s electrified offerings in a segment that continues to add hybridized models. While other automakers already offer plug-in hybrid compact crossovers, Nissan’s entry adds a three-row seating layout, which is less common among direct competitors. The model’s powertrain configuration reflects a transitional approach intended to provide electric-only capability for shorter commutes while retaining gasoline functionality for longer trips. As Nissan continues updating its SUV lineup and introducing more electrified products, the Rogue Plug-in Hybrid positions the brand to address increasing consumer interest in plug-in hybrid vehicles without fully transitioning buyers to battery-electric models.
