BMW announced that its 2027 iX3 50 xDrive electric Sports Activity Vehicle will start at $61,500 in the United States, plus a $1,350 destination and handling fee, bringing the all-in entry price to $62,850. The Munich-based automaker confirmed an EPA estimated range of up to 434 miles for the most efficient configuration, opened its online configurator and reservation portal at bmwusa.com, and set a US market launch date of September 25.

The iX3 50 xDrive is the first series-production model to ride on the company’s new Neue Klasse architecture, the platform that BMW has positioned as the foundation for its next decade of fully electric vehicles. The launch represents a significant pivot for the brand, which has spent the past several years selling electric variants of internal combustion models. The Neue Klasse strategy moves the company onto a dedicated EV platform with redesigned electronics, batteries, and software. BMW unveiled the all-new iX3 last September, and the pricing announcement marks the final commercial step before customer deliveries begin in late September.

The base price covers a comprehensively equipped electric SUV that features the new Panoramic iDrive user interface, an 800-volt electrical architecture, and BMW’s Heart of Joy central computer. The Heart of Joy unit consolidates powertrain, chassis, charging, and recuperation control functions into a single high-performance processor, replacing several previously separate control modules. BMW has framed the system as the technical enabler for what it describes as class-leading driving dynamics and tighter integration between regenerative braking and the friction brakes.

Customers using the Build Your Own configurator on bmwusa.com can place a reservation through their preferred dealer with a $1,000 deposit. The reservation portal opened concurrently with the pricing announcement.

Range varies by wheel and tire combination. The most efficient setup is the 20-inch summer tire package, offered at no cost, which delivers an EPA-estimated 434 miles of range and 118 MPGe combined. The standard 20-inch all-season tire package returns 383 miles and 102 MPGe combined. The 21-inch summer and 21-inch all-season packages both come in at roughly 398-399 miles and 105 MPGe combined. The largest 22-inch summer option drops range slightly to 392 miles and 104 MPGe combined. The figures place the iX3 50 xDrive among the longest-range electric SUVs available in the United States, particularly in its base form.

Charging performance is one of the headline upgrades that comes with the move to the Neue Klasse platform. BMW says the iX3 can accept up to 400 kW from a compatible 800-volt DC fast charger, which is enough to add an estimated 185 miles of range in 10 minutes or take the battery from 10 to 80 percent in 21 minutes. The vehicle ships with a native NACS port, the connector standard developed by Tesla and now adopted by most of the industry. The shift gives BMW customers direct access to the Tesla Supercharger network without requiring an adapter. For context, Stellantis confirmed last November that it would adopt NACS on its 2026 EVs, joining nearly every other major automaker in the move toward a unified plug standard in North America.

The hardware that delivers those numbers is the company’s sixth-generation eDrive technology. The system pairs new electric motors with high-voltage batteries built using more energy-dense cylindrical cells, replacing the prismatic format used in previous BMW EVs. BMW says the package reduces energy losses by 40 percent, weight by 10 percent, and manufacturing costs by 20 percent compared with the fifth-generation hardware found in vehicles such as the i4, i5, i7, and previous-generation iX3. The technology made its public debut last June, when the new iX3 first showcased the sixth-generation eDrive system in European specification with a WLTP figure of approximately 800 kilometers.

Standard equipment on the 50 xDrive is unusually comprehensive for a base trim. Every iX3 50 xDrive ships with BMW Panoramic Vision, the company’s new full-width head-up display that projects information across the lower portion of the windshield, along with a free-cut central touchscreen, a multifunction steering wheel, and perforated Veganza upholstery in a choice of four contemporary interior designs: Black, Digital White, Castanea, or Agave Green. AC charging at home tops out at 15.4 kW on standard equipment, while customers who install the optional BMW Wallbox Professional can increase their home charging capacity to 19.2 kW DC. Bi-directional charging is included as standard hardware, allowing the vehicle to send power back to a home or to other devices when paired with the appropriate equipment. Polestar introduced a limited bi-directional pilot for Polestar 3 owners in California last year, and BMW now joins the small but growing list of automakers offering vehicle-to-load and vehicle-to-home capability from the factory.

Driver assistance technology is also included at no additional cost. Standard hardware includes Driving Assistant Plus, Active Blind Spot Detection, Lane Keeping Assistant, Forward Collision Mitigation, Active Cruise Control with Steering Assistant, and Active Park Distance Control with Side Protection. Customers who want hands-free highway driving must add the $2,500 Driving Assistance Professional Package, which includes Highway and Commuting Assistant, Traffic Jam Assistant, and Active Lane Change with Eye Activation.

BMW offers six additional option packages on the iX3 50 xDrive. The Comfort Package adds a heated steering wheel, multifunction seats, and a panoramic glass sunroof for $1,500, with an option to delete the sunroof for a $750 credit. The M Sport Package and M Sport Professional Package, priced at $2,500 and $4,000, respectively, add cosmetic and chassis enhancements, with the option to upgrade to wheels up to 22 inches. The Parking Assistant Package costs $750 and adds Parking Assistant Plus and a 3D surround-view camera. The Technology Package, priced at $1,900 standalone or $1,200 when paired with M Sport Professional, includes BMW’s Iconic Glow exterior lighting, a 3D head-up display, and a Harman/Kardon premium sound system.

Notable standalone options include perforated Merino leather upholstery for $1,500, rear heated seats for $500 (with required three-zone automatic climate control at an additional $200), a trailer hitch for $750, a panoramic glass sunroof for $1,000, and the Harman/Kardon system for $650 if not bundled into a package. BMW’s Frozen Space Silver matte paint is available for $3,600, with seven other metallic colors offered at $650 each.

The iX3 50 xDrive enters a US market that has rapidly added long-range, fast-charging electric SUVs in the $60,000 to $70,000 segment. With a starting price that undercuts most directly comparable luxury electric SUVs and an EPA range figure that exceeds those of most rivals, BMW’s first dedicated electric SUV on the new platform is positioned to test buyer demand for premium electric utility vehicles as the broader market continues its transition toward dedicated EV architectures.
