Acura has unveiled its Performance EV Concept at Monterey Car Week, marking a significant step in the brand’s electrification strategy. The concept SUV, designed by Acura’s Design Studio in Los Angeles, is set to become the brand’s first all-electric model, with production scheduled to begin in late 2025. This vehicle will be the first to use Honda’s newly developed EV platform and will be produced at the Honda EV Hub in Ohio.

The Acura Performance EV Concept features a design inspired by hydrofoil superyachts, with a vented hood, side vents, and an aggressive front fascia. The exterior is finished in “Moonlit White Pearl” with a semi-matte texture, and the rear includes a full-width taillight and a large diffuser, echoing the second-generation NSX. The vehicle is equipped with 23-inch wheels, wide performance tires, and a unique spoke pattern that suggests motion. Neon green brake calipers with Acura scripting reference the Acura Electric Vision Design Study introduced in 2023.

During Monterey Car Week, Acura will display the Performance EV Concept at two major events: The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This marks Acura’s fifth concept vehicle presentation at Monterey Car Week in the past 11 years.

In related news, Honda has provided an update on the Honda EV Hub in Ohio, which will lead the company’s electric vehicle production efforts in North America. This hub involves a $700 million investment in the Marysville Auto Plant, East Liberty Auto Plant, and Anna Engine Plant to support EV production. The construction of the L-H Battery Company, a joint venture between Honda and LG Energy Solution, is also underway, with completion expected by the end of 2024. The Honda EV Hub and L-H Battery Company are key elements of Honda’s strategy to enhance its electric vehicle production capacity in North America, aiming for an annual capacity of approximately 40GWh.
