BMW has announced updates to the 2026 iX, its fully electric Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV), with changes focused on performance, efficiency, and design. The model will be produced at BMW’s Plant Dingolfing, with deliveries expected in the second quarter of 2025.

The 2026 BMW iX will be available in three versions. The iX xDrive45 offers 402 horsepower with an estimated range of up to 312 miles. The iX xDrive60 produces 536 horsepower and has an expected range of up to 340 miles. The top-tier iX M70 xDrive features M-specific design elements, provides up to 650 horsepower, and has an estimated range of 302 miles. These figures are based on preliminary BMW AG tests using the EPA’s test procedure standards.

Pricing for the 2026 iX starts at $75,150 for the xDrive45, $88,500 for the xDrive60, and $111,500 for the M70 xDrive. All prices include a $1,175 destination and handling fee.

The vehicle’s exterior design includes a new front grille with a restructured pattern of vertical and diagonal lines. The grille is optionally illuminated on the iX xDrive45 and xDrive60 and comes standard on the M70 xDrive. The headlights have been redesigned with vertical elements for daytime running lights and turn indicators. The rear features an unbroken tailgate design, and the rear apron has been modified to integrate a diffuser element in the M70 xDrive and in models with the optional M Sport Package.

The M Sport Package, available for the first time on the iX, adds air intakes, new alloy wheels, and dark Shadowline headlights and taillights. The iX M70 xDrive includes these features as standard, along with a unique grille design, black mirror caps, and exclusive 22-inch alloy wheels. The vehicle is available in five new colors: Arctic Race Blue metallic, Dune Grey metallic, Carbon Black metallic, BMW Individual Frozen Deep Grey metallic, and Tanzanite Blue metallic.

Inside, the iX offers an updated cabin with new M Multi-Functional seats, available in microfiber/Sensatec or natural leather. The M Sport Package includes an M leather steering wheel, a two-tone instrument panel with an M logo, and additional trim details. The Climate Comfort Package, optional on the xDrive45 and xDrive60 and standard on the M70 xDrive, includes heated surfaces throughout the cabin. The Panoramic Eclipsing Roof is standard on most models, providing electrochromatic shading. A Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System with 30 speakers is also available. The iX has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 lbs, with a tow hitch option expected in the summer of 2025.

The drivetrain has been refined to improve power delivery. The iX xDrive45 accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds, while the iX xDrive60 completes the same in 4.4 seconds. The M70 xDrive, with up to 811 lb-ft of torque using Launch Control, can reach 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph with performance tires.

The chassis features adaptive two-axle air suspension on the M70 xDrive, with this system available as an option on the xDrive45 and xDrive60. The M70 xDrive also comes with Integral Active Steering and M Sport brakes.

Efficiency improvements include the use of silicon carbide semiconductor components in the power electronics, enhancing energy conversion and range. The iX xDrive60 is projected to achieve approximately 10% more range than its predecessor. The vehicle features adaptive recuperation to maximize energy recovery, and a new heat pump system optimizes battery and cabin heating.

Charging capabilities vary by model. The iX xDrive45 supports DC fast charging up to 175 kW, while the xDrive60 and M70 xDrive can charge at a maximum of 195 kW. The vehicle also supports Plug & Charge Multi Contract, allowing up to five digital charging contracts to be stored in the car.

Driver assistance features include standard Driving Assistant Plus, which offers Forward Collision Mitigation, Active Blind Spot Detection, and Lane Keeping Assistant. The BMW Highway Assistant allows hands-free driving at speeds up to 85 mph on limited-access highways. The Parking Assistant, including Back-Up Assistant, comes standard, while the optional Parking Assistant Professional enables remote-controlled parking via smartphone.

The iX is equipped with BMW Operating System 8.5, featuring a curved display and QuickSelect interface. BMW Live Cockpit Professional, available on the xDrive45 and xDrive60 and standard on the M70 xDrive, includes a Head-Up Display and Augmented View. The system also supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Amazon Alexa. Additional digital services include in-car gaming via the AirConsole platform and video streaming.

Sustainability initiatives include an increased use of secondary aluminum in the alloy wheels, and BMW’s partnership with SK tes for battery recycling in Europe. The BMW iX also integrates an efficiency trainer through the My BMW App, offering driving style optimization tips.

Production of the 2026 BMW iX is scheduled to begin in March 2025, with deliveries starting in the second quarter of the year.
