ChargePoint and Eaton have announced a new ultrafast charging architecture designed to support both public electric vehicle (EV) charging and fleet operations. The system, called ChargePoint Express Grid, combines ChargePoint’s Express chargers with Eaton’s power management solutions to deliver charging speeds of up to 600 kilowatts (kW) for passenger EVs and megawatt-level charging for heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
The Express Grid platform integrates Eaton’s electrical infrastructure with ChargePoint’s fast-charging technology to address growing energy demands and potential grid constraints. The system incorporates vehicle-to-everything (V2X) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capabilities, allowing energy stored in vehicle batteries, onsite renewables, and energy storage systems to be synchronized with local energy markets. According to the companies, this approach could help fleets lower fueling costs and, when deployed with participating utilities, contribute to balancing grid demand.
Eaton will engineer each Express Grid installation with customized power infrastructure and offer a site-ready, skid-mounted configuration to reduce equipment requirements and simplify installation. The company also plans to introduce solid-state transformer technology in the coming year, following its acquisition of Resilient Power Systems Inc., to further support DC-based charging applications.
ChargePoint CEO Rick Wilmer said the new architecture is intended to lower costs and improve performance for EV fast charging, while Eaton Vice President Paul Ryan stated that the partnership aims to accelerate large-scale electrification through technology designed for efficiency and reliability.
