General Motors will reintroduce the Chevrolet Bolt for the 2027 model year following customer demand. The new Bolt will build upon the previous model’s reputation as one of the most affordable long-range electric vehicles on the market. Production will take place at GM’s Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas City, Kansas, using both domestic and global components. Customer deliveries are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026, and the model will be offered in limited quantities.

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt LT will start at $29,990, including a $1,395 destination freight charge. Later in the model year, a lower-priced LT trim will be available at $28,995 with destination. Chevrolet states that the Bolt will offer the highest estimated range of any EV priced under $30,000, with a GM-estimated 255 miles on a full charge. The vehicle will be part of Chevrolet’s broader EV strategy, joining the Equinox EV, which the company reports as one of its best-selling electric models. Chevrolet expects the Bolt and Equinox EV to represent the majority of its EV sales volume for the 2026 model year.

The 2027 Bolt is powered by GM’s X76 electric drive unit, which is designed to improve efficiency and reduce costs. The system produces 210 horsepower and 169 pound-feet of torque through a single permanent-magnet motor. The battery pack uses lithium iron phosphate chemistry in prismatic cells, offering 65 kilowatt-hours of energy and an estimated 250 miles of range. The vehicle features regenerative braking with a blended system that prioritizes energy recovery under various driving conditions. Charging capability includes 11.5 kW AC charging and 150 kW DC fast charging, allowing a 10 to 80 percent charge in approximately 26 minutes.

Chevrolet says the X76 drive unit reduces the use of rare-earth materials and employs segmented magnets to manage heat more effectively. Silicon carbide inverter materials further minimize energy loss between the battery and drive unit. The 2027 Bolt also features the latest version of GM’s blended braking system to improve pedal consistency between regenerative and friction braking.

The new Bolt will be Chevrolet’s first model equipped with a native NACS (North American Charging Standard) port, providing broader access to public fast-charging infrastructure. The car also includes Vehicle-to-Home bidirectional charging capability when paired with GM Energy’s home system, which could allow the vehicle to power a properly equipped home during an outage. The Bolt’s HVAC system uses a heat pump for cabin and battery thermal management, contributing to energy efficiency in varying climates.

Inside, the Bolt receives a revised interior layout with an open console and increased storage space. The center infotainment display measures 11.3 inches diagonally and runs Google built-in software, while the 11-inch driver display offers customizable layouts. Google Maps integration allows for route planning with real-time charging station data and range estimation based on driving habits. The system also supports voice commands through Google Assistant for navigation, phone, and climate functions. Additional features include available wireless phone charging, multiple USB-C ports, and an optional panoramic sunroof.

The 2027 Bolt includes over 20 standard safety and driver assistance features, such as Intersection Collision Mitigation, Rear Cross Traffic Alert with Braking, and Adaptive Cruise Control. Available Super Cruise technology enables hands-free driving on compatible highways, with integration into Google Maps for route visualization. Other available technologies include HD Surround Vision and a digital rearview mirror.

Exterior updates include seven available paint colors, 17-inch wheels in three finishes, and the introduction of a new RS trim. The RS model includes high-gloss black accents, unique badging, and an optional Atomic Yellow exterior with red interior stitching. The design maintains a hatchback configuration that prioritizes passenger and cargo space, with a cargo capacity of up to 56.3 cubic feet with the rear seats folded.

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt continues GM’s effort to expand its electric vehicle lineup with affordable options. Chevrolet’s EV lineup now includes the Equinox EV, Blazer EV, Silverado EV, and upcoming models under the Cadillac and GMC brands. The Bolt’s return marks GM’s 10th vehicle to use the X76 drive unit, a component designed for scalability across multiple platforms to reduce costs through shared development.
