Chevrolet has revealed two new Corvette concept vehicles, the Corvette CX and the Corvette CX.R Vision Gran Turismo, at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering. The vehicles are not intended for production but are designed to influence future Corvette design. Both were developed as part of a General Motors design project involving global studios, with the CX concepts created at the Chevrolet Performance Studio in Warren, Michigan.
The Corvette CX concept incorporates traditional Corvette design elements such as a forward-lunging nose, a horizontal “chine” line separating upper and lower bodywork, and dual-element taillights. It has a low roofline measuring less than 41 inches. The exterior design was shaped in collaboration with GM Motorsports Aero Group and includes active aerodynamic components. These include a Vacuum Fan System that draws air through open-channel bodywork to generate downforce and adjust aerodynamic balance. The front diffuser and rear wing adjust automatically, and the wing-shaped suspension A-arms are designed to reduce lift.
The CX concept uses an all-wheel-drive electric powertrain with four motors, one per wheel, producing over 2,000 horsepower. A 90-kWh lithium-ion battery is mounted in the chassis for weight distribution. Inside, the concept features a forward-opening canopy, seats finished in Inferno Red ballistic textile, silicone leather, milled aluminum, forged carbon fiber accents, and a digital windscreen that serves as an immersive display. Controls are integrated into the steering wheel.
The Corvette CX.R Vision Gran Turismo is a track-focused variant designed for Gran Turismo 7. It has a yellow and black color scheme similar to past Corvette GT racecars, with enhanced aerodynamic features, reduced weight, and a lower ride height. The interior uses raw carbon fiber and suede-wrapped foam seating inserts.
The CX.R VGT combines electrification with a mid-mounted 2.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine producing up to 900 horsepower and revving to 15,000 rpm. Powered by renewable e-fuel, the V8 drives the rear wheels through an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. Three electric motors contribute to a combined output of 2,000 horsepower.
Detailed blueprints for the chassis, drivetrain, and aerodynamic systems of both concepts have been created. Chevrolet, in collaboration with Polyphony Digital Inc., will make the Corvette CX and CX.R Vision Gran Turismo available for virtual driving in Gran Turismo 7 later in August.
