Citroën has announced the second generation of its C5 Aircross SUV, which will be available in hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric configurations. The vehicle is built on Stellantis’ STLA Medium platform, which enables compatibility with multiple powertrains while maintaining interior space and aerodynamic efficiency. The new C5 Aircross is scheduled for release in major European markets in the second half of 2025.
The exterior of the new C5 Aircross features design changes intended to improve aerodynamic performance. The vehicle adopts a more angular and sculpted profile compared to its predecessor, with a revised front and rear end. Citroën’s new logo and a three-point LED light signature are integrated into the front, while the rear features a vertical tailgate and aerodynamic elements designed to guide airflow and reduce drag. The SCx aerodynamic coefficient has been improved to 0.75, down from 0.84.
Dimensionally, the vehicle measures 4,652 mm in length and 1,902 mm in width, with a wheelbase of 2,784 mm. The updated platform allows for larger wheels, up to 20 inches, and includes features designed to reduce rolling resistance and improve brake cooling. Boot space remains unchanged regardless of powertrain, ranging from 565 liters to 1,668 liters with the rear seats folded.
Interior design follows Citroën’s “C-Zen Lounge” concept. Features include a horizontal dashboard with ambient lighting, Advanced Comfort seats with adjustable bolsters, and optional heated and massaging front seats. Rear passengers also receive adjustable backrests, heating (on certain trims), and increased knee and headroom compared to the previous model. A large panoramic glass roof and improved storage options are also available.
Technology updates include a new “Waterfall” HD touchscreen interface with customizable widgets, extended head-up display, voice control with Citroën’s native system and integrated ChatGPT, and wireless smartphone integration. New safety features include Matrix LED headlights, extended blind spot detection, driver attention monitoring, and VisioPark camera systems with up to 360-degree views.
Powertrain options include a 145 hp mild hybrid with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 0.9 kWh battery, allowing up to 50% electric driving in urban conditions. The plug-in hybrid version offers 195 hp combined from a 1.6-litre petrol engine and 21 kWh battery, with an average electric range of 86 km and over 100 km in urban settings. Charging times vary depending on the power source, with faster times available using optional chargers.
The fully electric ë-C5 Aircross comes in two configurations: one with a 210 hp motor and 73 kWh battery offering up to 520 km range, and another with a 230 hp motor and 97 kWh battery capable of up to 680 km range under WLTP conditions. The electric version includes regenerative braking, heat pump, and EV trip planner with real-time navigation adjustments. Charging capabilities range from wallbox to ultra-fast charging terminals.
The C5 Aircross includes materials made from recycled sources, including seat fabrics and plastics. The model contains 160 kg of recycled metals and 47 kg of recycled or bio-sourced plastics. Components such as the battery packs and electric drive systems are produced in France, and the vehicle is assembled at Citroën’s Rennes plant.
