Stellantis has announced a delay in the release of Ram’s first fully electric pickup truck, moving its expected launch to 2026. The company cited decreasing demand in the electric pickup segment as the reason for the change in its timeline.
Ram will instead prioritize the release of the 1500 Ramcharger, a plug-in hybrid model, in the first half of 2025. The Ramcharger is designed to operate as a battery-powered vehicle but incorporates a gasoline engine to act as a generator, enabling the battery to recharge while driving.
Previously, Ram had planned to introduce its fully electric 1500 REV pickup in early 2025. The company explained that the decision to launch the Ramcharger first was influenced by strong consumer interest in the model, its strategic advantage in hybrid technology, and a slowdown in market demand for half-ton battery-electric trucks.
This shift in Ram’s electrification strategy comes after changes in Stellantis leadership. Tim Kuniskis recently returned to lead Ram following his retirement earlier this year. His return coincided with the resignation of Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares, which occurred shortly before Kuniskis rejoined the company.
