Dodge has a $30,000-ish EV that’s a steal

Do you all remember the Dodge Charger Daytona? It’s an EV from Stellantis that comes in either an R/T or Scat Pack variant, with the R/T having some 496 horsepower with the Power Shot function, 404 lb-ft of torque, all-wheel drive, and 308 miles of EPA-rated range.

That R/T is discontinued already for 2026, but dealerships are sitting on some new ones in stock, and they can be had for a heck of a deal. I’d argue few $30,000-ish new cars in general come with what this car does. Let’s take a look at what you get.

In addition to the horsepower and torque and EPA-rated range, the R/T is capable of charging at up to 183 kW, which is more than from any Ford at the moment and many of the more entry-level GM electric vehicles. Its 100.5 kWh battery pack can be recharged from 20% to 80% (I do prefer quoting 10% to 80%) in 24 minutes, or 32.5 minutes if you start at just 5% state of charge.

Even though it’s a two-door model, it seats 5 comfortably, and the rear liftgate opens up to a decent amount of storage. Total passenger volume is 103 cubic feet, which is 10 more cubic feet than a RAV4.

The All Wheel Drive will be good in the winter, and creature comforts like Uconnect 5 have wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto.

Reviewers have panned the car for not being up to snuff, but much of that is centered around the starting price and the Fratzonic exhaust. You can turn the latter off, and with the prices we’re seeing on dealership lots, that starting price becomes a non-starter.

Currently on Cars.com, you can find R/T models at just under $33,000 before tax and title (like this one, or this one). That’s a heck of a deal for a car that is quiet, comfortable, and reasonably quick. Plus, the car looks the business with its R-Wing front air wing, wide body, and bright colors.

Is it the best new EV you can buy? No. But at this price, you’re getting an incredible amount of car and functionality, even with just the two doors.
