Electrify America has announced the expansion of its DC fast charging network across the Midwest, with new charging stations being installed at Meijer locations. This strategic partnership with the regional retail giant is part of Electrify America’s broader effort to increase the availability of fast charging infrastructure in key areas, making electric vehicle (EV) ownership more convenient and accessible.
The expansion will see DC fast chargers installed at multiple Meijer stores throughout the Midwest, offering EV drivers easy access to reliable charging while they shop. This initiative is aimed at addressing one of the primary concerns of current and potential EV owners: the availability of fast and convenient charging options, particularly in regions where infrastructure is still developing.
Electrify America’s DC fast chargers are capable of providing up to 350 kW of power, allowing compatible vehicles to charge significantly faster than with traditional Level 2 chargers. For example, some EVs can gain up to 20 miles of range per minute of charging, depending on the vehicle and charging conditions. This rapid charging capability is particularly valuable for drivers who need to recharge quickly during long trips or busy schedules.
The choice to partner with Meijer reflects Electrify America’s focus on placing charging stations in locations that are both accessible and convenient for drivers. Meijer, a major retail chain with a strong presence in the Midwest, offers an ideal setting for EV charging stations, providing customers with the opportunity to charge their vehicles while they shop for groceries and other essentials.
This expansion is part of Electrify America’s larger goal to establish a comprehensive and reliable fast-charging network across the United States. By the end of 2025, the company plans to have more than 1,800 charging stations with over 10,000 individual chargers in operation across the country. The Midwest expansion is a crucial step toward achieving this goal, helping to fill gaps in the nation’s charging infrastructure and encouraging broader adoption of electric vehicles.
As EV adoption continues to grow, the availability of fast, reliable charging infrastructure will play a critical role in supporting this transition. Electrify America’s partnership with Meijer demonstrates a commitment to meeting the needs of EV drivers by expanding access to high-speed charging in convenient locations across the Midwest.
