Electrify America has announced the opening of its latest large-format electric vehicle (EV) charging station at Simon’s Fashion Valley in San Diego, California. This new location features 20 Hyper-Fast chargers capable of delivering charging speeds of up to 350 kilowatts (kW). The station provides EV drivers with access to nearby shopping and dining options and is part of Electrify America’s initiative to meet the growing demand for EV charging by introducing larger stations.
Robert Barrosa, CEO of Electrify America, stated that the opening of the 1,000th charging station demonstrates the company’s commitment to convenient EV charging. Electrify America has developed an extensive open Hyper-Fast charging network across 47 states, the District of Columbia, and seven Canadian provinces within six years.
Daniel Segal, Vice President of Business Development at Simon Property Group, noted that the Fashion Valley location is one of over 85 Electrify America charging stations situated on Simon properties throughout the U.S. Segal mentioned that the availability of Hyper-Fast chargers, along with Fashion Valley’s shopping, dining, and entertainment options, offers a convenient destination for visitors to charge their vehicles.
The 1,000th station at Fashion Valley adds to an existing Electrify America station on the property, expanding the total number of Hyper-Fast chargers available to 23. While charging, guests can monitor their sessions through the Electrify America mobile app, which offers notifications when a session is complete, ensuring efficient use of the charging facilities.
Customers with eligible electric vehicles can take advantage of the Plug&Charge feature offered by Electrify America. After enrolling in their vehicle’s Electrify America Premium Offer, users can initiate charging by simply plugging in, without the need for additional steps such as using a wallet, smartphone, or bank card.
The new charging station is situated on Level P2 of Parking Structure D at Fashion Valley South and offers 20 Hyper-Fast chargers. An additional three Hyper-Fast chargers are available at Fashion Valley North near Parking Structure E. The charging facilities operate 24/7 and are equipped with on-site security. Users will find themselves close to Fashion Valley’s various stores, restaurants, and restrooms.
Electrify America has reported a significant increase in charging sessions in 2023, doubling the number provided to customers and delivering over 10 million sessions that dispensed approximately 380 gigawatt-hours of energy. The company aims to reach a target of 5,000 Hyper-Fast public and commercial chargers open or under construction by the end of 2024.
