Beijing Hyundai officially unveiled its first pure electric SUV built on a dedicated EV platform. The new model, named Elexio, made its global debut at Studio 88 Space in Shanghai. The unveiling marks a strategic step in the company’s ongoing transition toward electrification in the Chinese automotive market.
The Elexio is positioned as an electric SUV that integrates Hyundai Motor Group’s latest technology. The vehicle is the first to be built on the brand’s new platform dedicated to electric vehicles, which is separate from platforms shared with internal combustion engine models. Beijing Hyundai states that the Elexio represents its aim to enhance product competitiveness and cater to changing market demands for new energy vehicles.
The exterior design of the Elexio features angular lines and a minimalist lighting signature, reflecting the automaker’s interpretation of modern electric vehicle aesthetics. The interior includes a panoramic display and adopts a streamlined layout focused on digital interaction. The vehicle will also offer over-the-air update capabilities and is equipped with Hyundai’s latest infotainment and smart cockpit systems.
During the event, Beijing Hyundai outlined its strategy for expanding its presence in the electric vehicle sector, emphasizing continued investment in intelligent mobility and sustainability. The Elexio is expected to be launched in the Chinese market later this year, although no specific timeline or pricing details were provided during the debut.
Beijing Hyundai is a joint venture between Hyundai Motor Company and Beijing Automotive Group. The company has indicated that the Elexio is a central part of its future lineup, with further electrified models planned under its new energy initiative.
