EVgo Inc., one of the largest public fast-charging networks in the United States, and General Motors have announced the expansion of their collaboration to further increase the availability of public electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The two companies plan to deploy 400 fast-charging stalls at flagship destinations across key metropolitan areas in the U.S. These stations will be located in cities from states such as Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, New York, and Texas.
The flagship stations will feature 350kW fast chargers, enhanced lighting, security cameras, and pull-through access for convenience. Canopies will also be installed to provide shelter. Most stations are expected to offer up to 20 charging stalls, though some locations may offer more. The goal is to meet the increasing demand for accessible, reliable, and convenient EV charging infrastructure in densely populated areas. These stations will be co-branded by EVgo and GM Energy and will be situated near amenities such as restaurants, coffee shops, and retail outlets, providing EV drivers with a variety of services while they charge their vehicles.
EVgo’s president, Dennis Kish, emphasized the importance of customer satisfaction, noting that the new flagship stations are designed with customer convenience and comfort in mind. The stations are expected to become major hubs for EV drivers and will use EVgo’s prefabricated construction approach to speed up the build process and offer the flexibility to expand further in the future.
The first of these flagship locations is expected to open in 2025. GM Energy Vice President Wade Sheffer highlighted the continued focus on delivering reliable charging solutions for EV owners. The initiative aims to improve the charging experience and meet the evolving needs of electric vehicle drivers across the country.
In addition to these new flagship locations, EVgo and GM are continuing their efforts to build out a broader metropolitan charging network. Together, they plan to install a total of 2,850 DC fast charging stalls. As part of this larger project, the companies reached a milestone in August 2023 by opening their 1,000th fast charging stall, with expectations to have their 2,000th stall operational by the end of 2024.
