Ionna, a charging network founded by BMW, General Motors, Honda, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Stellantis, and Toyota, has announced the start of construction on its first charging site, called the “Rechargery.” This facility is being developed in Apex, North Carolina, near the company’s headquarters and customer experience lab.

The site is located in a historic district of Apex, replacing a former gas station. It marks IONNA’s first Rechargery and the first facility of its kind in North Carolina. The location features 10 covered charging bays that will provide protection from the weather. These bays will support both CCS and NACS charging standards, with charging capabilities of up to 400kW and 800+ volts.

In addition to charging facilities, the Rechargery will offer an indoor driver’s lounge. This lounge will provide access to bathrooms, coffee service, food and beverages, and WIFI, allowing drivers to relax or work while their vehicles charge. Outdoor amenities will also be available, including pet-friendly areas.

In related news, Ionna has appointed Jackie Slope as its Chief Technology Officer. Slope brings over 15 years of experience in sports and entertainment, having worked at major venues like Crypto.com Arena and Madison Square Garden. She will focus on the deployment of hardware, software, and customer experience technologies at IONNA, aiming to create a seamless and efficient charging process.

When commenting on her new role, Slope expressed her enthusiasm for enhancing the charging experience through customer-centric innovations.
