Ford has announced an expansion of the BlueOval Charge Network, a virtual charging service that consolidates multiple public charging networks into a single account. Beginning March 20, 2025, Ford customers in North America will gain access to the Ionna network.
Ionna is a new public DC fast-charging network in the United States. It has recently opened several stations, known as Rechargeries, and plans to establish over 1,000 charging stalls at approximately 100 locations by the end of 2025. By 2030, the network aims to exceed 30,000 stalls across the country. Ionna chargers provide up to 400 kW and are equipped with CCS1 and NACS (SAE J3400) connectors.
Currently, Ford customers will have access to six Ionna Rechargeries located in Apex, North Carolina; Willoughby, Ohio; Springfield, Ohio; Scranton, Pennsylvania; Abilene, Kansas; and Houston, Texas.
The BlueOval Charge Network includes over 180,000 public charging points across 14 networks in the United States and Canada. Through this service, Ford customers can locate charging stations, view real-time availability and pricing, and complete payments using a single account. These features are accessible through the FordPass mobile app or the Public Charging app on the vehicle’s touchscreen, eliminating the need for additional applications.
Ford offers three payment methods within the BlueOval Charge Network: Plug & Charge at compatible network partners, activation through the FordPass mobile app, and activation via the Public Charging app in vehicles equipped with SYNC.
The BlueOval Charge Network integrates multiple charging providers, including Blink, Circuit électrique, ChargePoint (which includes the Mercedes-Benz Charging Network), Electrify America, EV Connect (which includes ChargeSmart EV), EVgo, FLO, FPL EVolution, Ford Charge, Francis Energy, Ionna, Shell Recharge, Red E, and Tesla Superchargers. Plug & Charge is supported at Electrify America and Tesla Superchargers.
We have Ford’s official statement below.
The BlueOval Charge Network strategy is to seamlessly bring together a network of networks to offer Ford electric vehicle drivers access to the largest public charging network in North America, without the need for multiple memberships, apps or payment methods, now including IONNA.
Investment in the ownership of external charging networks to date has not been a part of our strategy. Ford is currently focused on making charging at home, and on the go, a seamless experience for Ford electric vehicle customers. Ford fully supports any investment of new public fast charging such as IONNA.
