Ford has announced that starting next year, its electric vehicles, including the F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and E-Transit, will be able to use Tesla’s Supercharger network thanks to the adoption of the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port. This move allows Ford EV owners to charge at over 12,000 Tesla Supercharger stations across the U.S. and Canada, in addition to the 10,000+ fast-chargers already available through the FordPass app.
Marin Gjaja, Chief Customer Officer for Ford Model e, highlighted that Tesla’s network offers excellent reliability and a more compact, efficient connector. Ford vehicles will initially use an adapter to access Superchargers, with payment integrated through the FordPass app. Starting in 2025, new Ford EVs will come with the NACS connector as standard, eliminating the need for an adapter. It remains to be seen whether NACS will be the exclusive connector on Ford EVs moving forward.
This announcement marks Ford as the first mainstream automaker to support NACS, potentially setting a precedent for other manufacturers to follow.
