Tesla’s Gigafactory Texas has reached a significant production milestone with the completion of its 400,000th vehicle. To commemorate the occasion, the company arranged dozens of red Model Y vehicles on the rooftop of its parking structure to spell out “400K,” a display captured by local drone pilot Joe Tegtmeyer .
Despite this achievement, the production pace at Giga Texas has raised questions. Since its inauguration in April 2022, the factory has averaged approximately 160,000 vehicles per year, falling short of earlier projections. In contrast, Tesla’s Giga Berlin reached its 500,000th Model Y in just over three years, with the last 100,000 units produced in under six months .
Tesla had ambitious plans for Giga Texas, aiming for an annual production capacity of 250,000 vehicles . However, the current output suggests that the factory is operating below its intended capacity. This discrepancy has led to discussions about the challenges faced in scaling up production, including supply chain issues and the complexities of manufacturing new vehicle models like the Cybertruck.
As Tesla continues to navigate these challenges, the performance of Giga Texas remains a focal point for investors and industry analysts monitoring the company’s growth and production capabilities.
