ChargePoint and General Motors (GM) announced a collaboration to install up to 500 ultra-fast charging ports across the United States by the end of 2025. These charging stations will be strategically located to support the expansion of electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in the country. The partnership aims to provide drivers with improved access to fast-charging technology.
Many of these locations will be branded under GM Energy and feature ChargePoint’s Omni Port system. This system allows vehicles equipped with either CCS or NACS charging ports to use the same charger without requiring an adapter or designated parking space. The stations will include ChargePoint’s Express Plus platform, which supports charging speeds of up to 500kW.
ChargePoint CEO Rick Wilmer stated that the collaboration represents an investment in reliable and efficient charging solutions to support the shift to electric mobility. GM Energy Vice President Wade Sheffer emphasized that the project will enhance charging options for GM customers, contributing to a better EV ownership experience.
The partnership includes an incentive program to encourage third-party charge point operators to own and operate the charging infrastructure. This initiative is part of the broader effort to expand DC fast-charging networks nationwide.
