General Motors (GM) and Pilot Company have announced a partnership to create a coast-to-coast fast-charging network for electric vehicles (EVs) across the United States. This initiative is part of GM’s broader strategy to support the adoption of electric vehicles by expanding the availability of charging infrastructure.

The planned network will be installed at Pilot and Flying J travel centers, which are strategically located along major highways and interstates. This will enable long-distance travelers and commercial drivers to access reliable fast-charging options at convenient locations, addressing one of the key concerns for EV owners: range anxiety.

The network will feature DC fast chargers capable of delivering rapid charging speeds, significantly reducing the time it takes to recharge an EV compared to standard chargers. The chargers will be powered by EVgo, a leading provider of fast-charging networks, which will manage the installation, operation, and maintenance of the chargers.

GM and Pilot aim to cover a wide geographic area, ensuring that EV drivers can travel coast to coast with minimal disruptions. The project will also contribute to the broader goal of increasing the accessibility of EV charging stations, making electric vehicles a more viable option for a larger segment of the population.

This partnership between GM and Pilot underscores the importance of collaboration between automakers, energy providers, and infrastructure companies in the transition to electric mobility. By combining resources and expertise, these companies are taking a significant step towards making EV charging more widespread and convenient across the United States.

The rollout of the fast-charging network is expected to begin in 2023, with full deployment anticipated in the years following. As the network expands, it will play a crucial role in supporting the growing number of electric vehicles on the road and helping to achieve a more sustainable transportation future.
