General Motors (GM) has announced that its BrightDrop electric commercial vans will now be integrated into the Chevrolet brand. This move is aimed at leveraging Chevrolet’s extensive commercial vehicle sales and service dealer network to boost BrightDrop’s market presence. The BrightDrop electric vehicles (EVs) are estimated by GM to have a range of 272 miles, suitable for both city and highway driving, and come equipped with advanced safety features.

By incorporating BrightDrop’s electric vans into Chevrolet’s EV portfolio, GM expects to enhance customer access to a broad commercial sales and service network. Chevrolet dealerships that meet specific commercial EV criteria will be eligible to sell and service BrightDrop vans, which will help minimize vehicle downtime for fleet operators.

Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet, stated that the integration aligns advanced EV technology with Chevrolet’s established reputation for reliability and broad accessibility. He emphasized that this decision strengthens Chevrolet’s position as a leading commercial vehicle brand.

BrightDrop was first introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January 2021 and became part of GM Envolve, GM’s fleet business division, in 2023. Sandor Piszar, vice president of GM Envolve, noted that the Chevrolet BrightDrop 400 and 600 models will continue to feature advanced technology aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, reducing emissions, and optimizing service and delivery. Piszar highlighted that integrating BrightDrop into Chevrolet would expand its market reach and support customers in achieving productivity and carbon-neutral goals.

Production of the BrightDrop vehicles will continue at the CAMI Assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario. Kristian Aquilina, President of GM Canada, commented that this branding shift reflects GM and Chevrolet’s confidence in BrightDrop’s potential in the electric fleet market. Aquilina also acknowledged the plant’s role as Canada’s first large-scale EV manufacturer, underscoring its importance in producing BrightDrop commercial EVs under the Chevrolet brand.
