General Motors (GM) has announced a global recall of 68,667 Chevrolet Bolt EVs due to a potential fire risk associated with the vehicle’s battery pack. This recall affects Bolt EVs from the model years 2017 to 2019, and it has been initiated after reports of battery fires that have raised concerns about the safety of the affected vehicles.

The issue stems from the possibility of a defect in the high-voltage battery pack, which could lead to overheating and, in some cases, result in a fire. GM has advised owners of the recalled vehicles to take precautions, including limiting their charging capacity to 90% and parking the vehicle outside immediately after charging, until a permanent solution is implemented.

GM has been working closely with its battery supplier, LG Chem, to investigate the root cause of the issue and develop a fix. The company plans to notify affected customers and provide instructions on how to schedule a service appointment. The remedy will likely involve software updates or, in some cases, replacement of the defective battery modules.

This recall is part of GM’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and reliability of its vehicles. The company has also emphasized its dedication to electric vehicle (EV) technology and the importance of addressing any potential risks associated with the transition to electric mobility.

While the recall presents a challenge for GM, it is also an opportunity for the company to demonstrate its responsiveness and commitment to customer safety. As the automotive industry continues to shift towards electrification, addressing issues like this promptly and effectively is crucial for maintaining consumer confidence in electric vehicles.

Customers affected by the recall are encouraged to contact their local Chevrolet dealership for more information and to arrange for the necessary service. GM has assured owners that it will cover the costs associated with the recall, including any repairs or battery replacements required to resolve the issue.

This recall serves as a reminder of the importance of safety in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle market, and GM’s actions will be closely watched as the company works to resolve the issue and ensure the continued trust of its customers.
