General Motors will end production of the gasoline-powered Cadillac XT6 crossover at its Spring Hill, Tennessee assembly plant later this year, as the automaker continues aligning its operations with Cadillac’s long-term electrification strategy. The decision was first reported by CNBC and confirmed by GM.

Production of the XT5, a smaller two-row crossover also built at Spring Hill, will continue until at least the end of 2026, despite earlier expectations it would be phased out sooner. An internal company memo cited “strong customer demand” as the reason for the XT5’s extended run. The XT5 was Cadillac’s third best-selling vehicle in 2023, behind the Escalade and the electric Lyriq.

Although Cadillac has scaled back its earlier goal to be an all-electric brand by 2030, the move to phase out the XT6 appears to be consistent with its broader EV transition. The XT6’s replacement, the all-electric Cadillac Vistiq, has already begun production at the same Tennessee facility, joining the Cadillac Lyriq, the brand’s first EV, which has been produced there since 2022.

The XT6 has seen modest demand since its launch in 2019, averaging 19,000 units sold annually. Positioned as a three-row crossover in GM’s lineup, it shared a platform with the GMC Acadia and entered the market later than its platform mates. Cadillac’s updated product strategy over the past year has included six new or refreshed vehicles, including both EV and internal combustion models.

General Motors said the production shifts are not related to tariffs and are part of the brand’s previously announced roadmap toward an electrified portfolio.

As part of the transition, GM will temporarily pause operations at the Spring Hill plant during the week of May 12. The downtime will also include temporary layoffs, which the company attributed to aligning vehicle inventory with current market demand.
