As of today, General Motors (GM) has enabled access to over 17,800 Tesla Supercharger stations for its electric vehicle (EV) customers. This is possible through the use of a GM-approved NACS DC adapter, which is designed to offer faster and more convenient charging options to GM’s current and future EV drivers.
The addition of Tesla’s Supercharger network expands GM’s existing charging infrastructure, which now includes more than 231,800 public Level 2 and DC fast chargers across North America. This expansion is part of GM’s continued efforts to accelerate the rollout of charging infrastructure through partnerships and collaborations, particularly in high-traffic areas and key communities. The GM-approved NACS DC adapters will be available to U.S. customers first, with plans to introduce the adapters in Canada later this year.
Wade Sheffer, vice president of GM Energy, stated that the expansion of public charging infrastructure is a critical aspect of GM’s plan for an all-electric future. He noted that enabling access to more fast charging stations is part of GM’s broader strategy to make EV ownership more seamless for customers.
U.S. customers will be able to purchase the GM-approved NACS DC adapter through GM’s vehicle brand mobile apps, priced at $225 USD. These apps will also allow users to locate Tesla Superchargers, monitor station availability, start charging sessions, and process payments for charging.
GM is working with multiple suppliers to manufacture the NACS DC adapters, ensuring they meet the North American Charging Standard (NACS). This ensures that GM EVs are compatible with Tesla’s Supercharger network and provides customers with more charging flexibility.
