Hyundai Motor Company has introduced the second-generation Nexo hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (FCEV) at the 2025 Seoul Mobility Show. The updated mid-size SUV features an improved fuel cell system, updated design, larger dimensions, and a variety of new technologies.
According to Hyundai, the latest Nexo has a projected driving range of over 435 miles based on internal testing using the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy standard. This increase is supported by a larger hydrogen tank with a usable storage capacity of up to 6.69 kilograms, up from 6.33 kilograms in the previous model. The new fuel cell stack now delivers up to 110 kilowatts (147.5 horsepower) of gross power, while a new front-mounted electric motor produces 150 kilowatts (201 horsepower) and 258 pound-feet of torque. The battery output has also doubled from 40 kW to 80 kW. Hyundai reports a 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) acceleration time of 7.8 seconds, compared to 9.2 seconds for the previous model.

The Nexo is 187 inches long, 73.4 inches wide, and 64.6 inches tall (65.9 inches with roof rack), with a 109.8-inch wheelbase. It offers a maximum cargo capacity of 35.1 cubic feet behind the second row and up to 60.7 cubic feet behind the first row. Exterior updates include Hyundai’s new “Art of Steel” design language, incorporating arch-shaped body sections, horizontal groove patterns, and a lighting system that includes ‘HTWO’ signature lamps and 4 Dot Lamps. Six color options are available, including Goyo Copper Pearl, a finish inspired by Korean culture.
Interior updates include an increase in passenger space, improved shoulder and headroom, and a wider rear door opening (up to 80 degrees). Features available in select trims include first-row Relaxation Seats with leg rests, ventilated rear seats, ambient lighting, and a panoramic “vision roof.” Sustainable materials are used throughout, including bio-processed leather, recycled PET fabric, and bio-based plastics.

The cockpit is centered around a 12.3-inch driver information display and a 12.3-inch infotainment screen in a single curved panel. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported, and a Bang & Olufsen sound system with up to 14 speakers is available. The infotainment system includes over-the-air updates and voice recognition powered by generative AI. A head-up display with a 12-inch projection is also included.
Additional features include dual wireless smartphone charging pads with cooling fans, fingerprint authentication for starting the vehicle and accessing payment features, Hyundai’s Digital Key 2, and onboard dash cameras with parking motion detection. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability allows external devices to draw power from the vehicle.
The new Nexo incorporates aerodynamic enhancements and sound-dampening technologies, including active noise cancellation and sound-absorbing tires. European models will offer a towing capacity of up to 2,204 pounds (1,000 kilograms). A Smart Regenerative System adjusts braking based on map and traffic data. The Nexo includes a hydrogen route planner (available in select markets) that incorporates refueling stations into navigation routes.

Safety features include a reinforced multi-skeleton body structure made from ultra-high strength steel, up to nine airbags, and a range of driver assistance systems. These include forward collision avoidance, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, lane following, highway driving assist, and remote smart parking assist.
The new Nexo supports Hyundai’s hydrogen strategy under its HTWO brand and complements the company’s broader electrification approach, which includes battery electric and hybrid vehicles. It is expected to reach global markets later in 2025.
