Hyundai is advancing beyond battery electric vehicles, continuing its exploration of hydrogen technology, particularly in larger commercial trucks. The N Vision 74 is a notable example of this effort, blending high performance with hydrogen fuel cell technology and an eye-catching design.
The N Vision 74 pays homage to Hyundai’s 1974 Pony Coupe concept, reinterpreting it with a modern touch. SangYup Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of Hyundai Design Center, noted that the design reflects a respect for the original Pony Coupe while incorporating contemporary design elements. The vehicle features Parametric Pixel lighting, which is also used in Hyundai’s E-GMP vehicles, giving it a futuristic retro appearance.
The interior of the N Vision 74 combines elements of heritage with modern design. It includes a digital instrument cluster alongside traditional analog buttons, creating a blend of old and new. The vehicle’s wheelbase is similar to that of the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, and it has a low and wide stance.
The N Vision 74 is equipped with a 62.4 kWh battery pack, which supports rapid charging on 800-volt systems, and a 4.2 kg hydrogen fuel tank. The rear motor delivers over 500 kW, translating to approximately 670 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. Hyundai anticipates that the N Vision 74 will achieve speeds exceeding 250 km/h (155 mph) and a driving range of over 600 km (373 miles).
This concept vehicle serves as a test bed for Hyundai’s fuel cell technology. While hydrogen infrastructure remains limited in the United States, the N Vision 74 showcases the potential of hydrogen technology in regions where such infrastructure exists. The development of this technology highlights the diversity of future automotive solutions.
The N Vision 74’s striking design, combining retro aesthetics with modern technology, has garnered attention. The vehicle’s appearance is a testament to Hyundai’s approach to blending past and future design elements. As the car makes its rounds on the auto show circuit, it will be an opportunity for enthusiasts to see this innovative vehicle in person.
