Amazon has introduced a new platform called Amazon Autos, allowing vehicle shoppers in 48 U.S. cities to browse, order, finance, and schedule pick-up of Hyundai vehicles directly from participating local dealerships. This initiative aims to streamline the car-buying process, offering a transparent and customer-friendly experience. Additional automotive brands and cities are expected to be added to the platform next year.
Amazon Autos provides an integrated online shopping experience for vehicles. Shoppers can search for cars by make, model, trim, color, and features, and complete the purchase process, including financing, within Amazon’s familiar interface. The platform also offers upfront pricing inclusive of taxes and fees, eliminating the need for negotiation. Customers can secure a trade-in valuation for their existing vehicle through a third-party assessment, which can be applied toward the purchase of their new car. Once the purchase is completed, customers schedule a pick-up time at the dealership.
According to Fan Jin, global head of Amazon Autos, the platform aims to simplify the traditionally complex car-buying process by integrating it into Amazon’s well-established shopping ecosystem. Hyundai serves as the exclusive launch partner for the program, with plans to expand to additional brands and features in the future.
For dealers, Amazon Autos creates a new sales channel to reach a broad audience of Amazon shoppers. By handling initial browsing and purchasing steps online, the platform allows dealerships to focus on customer relationships during the in-person vehicle pick-up process. Steven Suh, general sales manager of South Bay Hyundai, highlighted the platform’s benefits, including reaching local audiences and building customer relationships based on transparent pricing and convenience.
Currently, Amazon Autos is available in major metropolitan areas such as Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and Seattle. Customers can access the service by visiting the Amazon Autos page on Amazon’s website or app.
