Volkswagen unveiled the ID. Cross concept, a compact electric SUV, at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich. The vehicle previews an upcoming production model and is part of Volkswagen’s broader strategy to expand its entry-level electric lineup with four new models launching starting in 2026.
The ID. Cross rides on Volkswagen’s updated MEB+ platform and features front-wheel drive powered by a single electric motor producing 155 kW (211 horsepower). The estimated range is up to 261 miles under the WLTP testing cycle. The concept measures about 163.8 inches in length, 72.4 inches in width, and 62.5 inches in height, with a wheelbase of 102.4 inches. Cargo capacity is rated at 15.9 cubic feet in the rear and an additional 0.9 cubic feet in a front storage compartment. The vehicle is fitted with 21-inch alloy wheels wrapped in specially developed 235/40 R21 tires.
The ID. Cross introduces Volkswagen’s new “Pure Positive” design language, which emphasizes clean lines and simplified surfaces. The exterior features a distinctive 3D light signature, while the interior focuses on spaciousness and comfort. The cabin includes fabric-covered surfaces, configurable lighting, climate, and sound settings, and front seats that can fold completely flat to create a reclining area.
Inside, the cockpit features an updated layout with two main displays: an 11-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13-inch central touchscreen for infotainment functions. The system integrates natural voice commands, simplified menu structures, and a redesigned multifunction steering wheel with improved ergonomics.
The updated MEB+ platform allows for upgraded hardware and software, including features such as enhanced Travel Assist. The ID. Cross uses a newly developed front-mounted electric drive unit and a flat-mounted high-voltage battery. The concept supports a towing capacity of up to 2,645 pounds on an 8 percent grade and has a drawbar load of up to 165 pounds, allowing owners to carry accessories such as bike racks with e-bikes.
The ID. Cross is expected to enter production in 2026. It will follow other upcoming models in Volkswagen’s compact electric portfolio, including the ID.2 all, ID. GTI Concept, and ID. Every1. The production version of the ID. Polo, based on the ID.2 all, is scheduled to debut in the first half of 2026, with the ID. Polo GTI following shortly after.
