Hyundai Motor Company has introduced the Ioniq 9, a three-row electric SUV set to debut in early 2025 in Korea and the United States, with subsequent releases planned for Europe and other markets. The Ioniq 9 features an expansive interior designed for up to seven passengers, utilizing Hyundai’s E-GMP platform. The flat floor accommodates flexible seating arrangements, including Relaxation Seats with a Dynamic Body Care massage system and Swiveling Seats in the second row, enhancing passenger interaction when the vehicle is stationary. A notable design feature is the Universal Island 2.0 console, which provides storage and accessibility from multiple seating positions.
The vehicle is powered by a 110.3 kWh battery, supporting a projected range of up to 620 km under WLTP standards. Charging efficiency is improved with a capability to recharge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 24 minutes under optimal conditions using a 350 kW charger (Editor’s note: Peak charging rate is 235 kW). The Ioniq 9 offers three drivetrain options: Long-Range RWD, Long-Range AWD, and Performance AWD, with the latter capable of reaching 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds.
Externally, the SUV emphasizes aerodynamic efficiency with a sleek “aerosthetic” design. This includes a single curved roofline, dual-motion active air flaps, and a smooth underbody cover to enhance performance and reduce drag. Hyundai has also removed the traditional roof antenna, integrating its functions within the windshield and tailgate. Lighting elements align with Hyundai’s EV design language, featuring Parametric Pixel LED lamps and an intelligent front-lighting system.
Inside, the Ioniq 9 prioritizes sustainable materials, including recycled PET fabrics and bio-based paint. The panoramic curved display combines a 12-inch cluster with a 12-inch monitor. The SUV includes advanced technological features, such as an AI-enabled voice recognition system, Hyundai’s Features on Demand service for software-based customizations, and enhanced Bluelink connectivity. For entertainment, a premium Bose sound system is available, offering surround sound and wireless updates.
The Ioniq 9’s ADAS suite includes various safety systems, such as Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance. Hyundai has reinforced the vehicle structure to provide enhanced safety for the battery and all passengers, with features such as pre-tensioners on third-row seatbelts and ten airbags.
