When Jeep introduced the concept Wagoneer back in 2020, it had a plug on it. But when the Grand Wagoneer and Wagoneer hit the streets a year or so later, there was no plug to be found. First, it was some HEMI V8s, and then it was the new Hurricane turbocharged six-cylinder. Today, that changes as the upcoming 2026 Grand Wagoneer will have a plug.

Jeep teased the new Grand Wagoneer in a video and teaser image, and it’s obvious from the photo that it has both a gasoline door in the rear and a plug door on the front fender. What could this mean for powertain? Jeep would have options.

First, it could be the same setup that is set to, eventually, debut in the Ram Ramcharger. That range-extended EV sends its power to the wheels via an electric motor, but the onboard battery can be charged either by a plug or by the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 under the hood. If that’s the case, then the new Grand Wagoneer would be riding on the STLA Frame architecture.

That’d make the most sense, since the current Grand Wagoneer is a body-on-frame SUV and Jeep would be unlikely to deviate from that configuration.

It’d also make sense since, as Bluesky user @TakuroSpirit points out, the wheel utilizes an 8-lug design. That means it’s quite heavy, but the Ram Ramcharger also has 8-lug wheels, making us believe even more that it’s the Stellantis EREV platform.

We wouldn’t be surprised, though, if there wasn’t a base offering utilizing the company’s Hurricane six-cylinder engine. That powertrain has some flexibility and delivers consistent performance. It seems unlikely the HEMI would return in either Grand Wagoneer or standard Wagoneer trims, but with Kuniskis having his paws in everything in Auburn Hills these days, we also wouldn’t completely rule it out.

Debut date is unknown, because Jeep just said it’d be later this year. Perhaps with Pebble Beach coming up, they wanted to put something out ahead of time, though we wouldn’t expect to see it there. What would be the most likely would be the 2025 Los Angeles International Auto Show in November.

The current Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer have had a rough go at things. Initially, a brand separate from Jeep, it was brought back into the Jeep fold last year to help with stagnating sales. An updated model with an advanced powertrain option might be what is needed to give the Grand Wagoneer the adrenaline shot in the arm the nameplate needs.

Updated (9:25 AM EDT, 08/09/2025): Added information about the 8-lug wheel design.
