Kia electric vehicle (EV) owners now have access to the Tesla Supercharger network, which includes over 21,500 DC fast chargers across the United States. This new availability increases the total number of DC fast chargers accessible to Kia EV customers to more than 40,000, when combined with the 22,000 chargers already available through other charging networks.
Kia EVs equipped with North American Charging Standard (NACS) ports, or those using a NACS adapter, can now utilize Tesla Superchargers through the Kia Access app. The app allows users to find, navigate to, and check the status and pricing of nearby charging stations. The same capabilities are also accessible via the vehicle’s infotainment system and compatible smartphones. Enrollment for access to the charging program is available through the Kia Charge Pass section of the app.
Kia has stated that this expansion represents an increase of over 80 percent in available DC fast chargers for its customers. The company has also addressed recent incidents involving damage to Tesla Supercharger stations, calling the infrastructure critical and condemning actions that interfere with its availability.
For Kia EV models using the Combined Charging System 1 (CCS1) port, Kia America is offering NACS-to-CCS1 adapters through its dealership network.
