Kia Corporation has revealed the exterior design of its PV5 Passenger and Cargo models in advance of its second Kia EV Day, which is scheduled to take place in Tarragona, Spain, later this month. The PV5, a mid-sized vehicle, is the first model to be introduced under Kia’s new Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) global business strategy.
Initially previewed as the Concept PV5 at the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the PV5 is designed to accommodate a range of use cases through modular customization. The vehicle is intended to leverage Kia’s EV technology and provide flexible solutions for a variety of customer needs.
Kia plans to offer the PV5 in multiple configurations, including Passenger and Cargo variants, with additional specialized versions to be announced at the 2025 Kia EV Day. The vehicle’s exterior design focuses on a modular structure intended to provide adaptability beyond that of traditional light commercial vehicles.
According to Kia’s Head of Global Design, Karim Habib, the PV5 is available in three body styles, all of which follow the company’s “Opposites United” design philosophy. The design is characterized by a bold, geometric appearance that aims to balance a futuristic aesthetic with functional utility.
The PV5 Passenger model features a low beltline to increase window area and visibility. The black window surrounds contrast with the body color, while black wheel arch claddings and rocker panels align with Kia’s SUV lineup. The front of the vehicle includes signature lighting elements and black headlight accents. The rear of the PV5 Passenger has a single lift-up tailgate door above a reinforced bumper, with a design that extends the body color from the side to the rear.
The PV5 Cargo model follows the same geometric design but has a boxier shape to optimize interior space. The Cargo variant differs from the Passenger model with twin side-opening tailgate doors for easier loading and unloading. The rear design is intended to maximize storage capacity while maintaining a modern aesthetic.
The PV5 models are part of Kia’s broader PBV initiative, which focuses on adaptable EV solutions for a variety of business and consumer applications. Further details on the PV5 lineup, including potential conversions and additional configurations, are expected to be revealed at the upcoming Kia EV Day.
