Kia had several announcements at this year’s LA Auto Show, including the refreshed EV6, the introduction of the EV9 GT, and an updated lineup of Sportages. But there was some other important news that wasn’t really covered, that’ll affect more buyers than maybe anything else.
For the updated EV6 EV, the U.S.-built models will have the charging port moved from the passenger side to the driver’s side. That’s excellent news! With the built-in NACS port, it can be a challenge parking at a Tesla Supercharger location and having a cord that can reach a non-traditional location on the car to charge. With this change, the charging port is located exactly where it is located on the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, which should make charging at Superchargers much easier.
While Tesla is rolling out updating charging stations with longer cords to accommodate different charge port locations, it makes the most sense to just have all the charging ports in the same spot on every EV. This is a step in the right direction.
At least on the U.S.-built EV6s. The EV6 GT, which is built in Korea, will retain its passenger-side charging location.
