Lexus has introduced the 2026 ES sedan at the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, marking the debut of the eighth generation of the model. The 2026 ES will be offered in hybrid and battery electric configurations and is scheduled to arrive in the United States in 2026. This is the first time the ES will be available as a battery electric vehicle (BEV), and it will be offered in both front-wheel and all-wheel drive.

The 2026 Lexus ES is built on a redesigned version of the TNGA GA-K platform, which was developed to accommodate both hybrid and battery electric powertrains. Structural rigidity has been increased throughout the vehicle, including at the front, floor, and rear, to reduce vibrations and improve handling. The new model also adopts a multi-link rear suspension for the first time, in combination with a MacPherson strut front suspension.

The vehicle’s exterior is influenced by the Lexus LF-ZC concept and showcases the brand’s new design approach, which Lexus refers to as “Clean Tech x Elegance.” The car has a lower stance and a streamlined profile. Lexus has also introduced a new exterior color called Wavelength across all powertrain variants. Lighting design includes new Twin L-Signature Lamps at the front and a Rear L-Signature Lamp integrated with an illuminated Lexus logo.

Interior updates include an extended overall length of approximately 6.5 inches and a longer wheelbase by 3 inches compared to the outgoing model. These changes result in increased interior space. The seating position has been raised to improve visibility and entry/exit. The ES is also the first model in North America to offer an Executive Package, which is available on the ES 350e FWD Luxury model. This package includes reclining rear seats with a passenger-side ottoman, heated and ventilated rear seats, and massaging functionality.

Cabin materials include Bamboo Layering trim and synthetic leather with embossing. The Mark Levinson surround sound system is also available. The tazuna-inspired cockpit features a 12.3-inch digital display and a 14-inch touchscreen interface. The multimedia system includes wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and improved voice assistant functionality.

In terms of powertrains, the ES 350h hybrid features a sixth-generation 2.5-liter hybrid system, available in both FWD and AWD. The ES 350e and ES 500e are battery electric models, with the 350e offering front-wheel drive and the 500e equipped with Direct4 all-wheel drive. Estimated range for the ES 350e is approximately 300 miles, while the ES 500e is estimated at 250 miles, both measured with 19-inch wheels. The BEVs utilize the North American Charging Standard (NACS) port and support DC fast charging, which can recharge the battery from 10% to 80% in about 30 minutes under optimal conditions. An 11-kW onboard AC charger is also standard.

The 2026 ES is the first Lexus vehicle to feature Lexus Safety System+ 4.0, which includes updated hardware and detection capabilities. Additional specifications and pricing information for the U.S. market will be announced closer to the vehicle’s on-sale date.
