Lucid Group, Inc. recently held its Technology & Manufacturing Day at its factory in Arizona, where it showcased key developments, including the upcoming Lucid Gravity SUV and related technologies. The event also featured an independent third-party analysis that emphasized the cost-effectiveness of Lucid’s manufacturing processes. The company highlighted that it had delivered more vehicles through August 31, 2024, than in all of 2023.

During the event, Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO of Lucid, commented on the capabilities of the Lucid Gravity SUV, stating that its design is made possible through Lucid’s advanced technologies. Rawlinson emphasized that the company’s powertrain system, particularly the drive unit, enables higher performance at a lower cost than competitors, while offering increased efficiency and reduced mass.

Lucid introduced its next-generation drive unit, called Atlas, which is currently in development. This new drive unit is expected to bring further value to Lucid’s future midsize platform vehicles. According to the company, the Atlas Drive Unit will enhance the overall performance of these vehicles, providing more power in a compact design. The current Lucid drive unit already delivers superior power density and efficiency compared to industry standards, resulting in a vehicle that uses less energy and fewer batteries. A proprietary software stack further enhances the drive unit’s capabilities, offering advanced features such as torque vectoring, traction control, and battery management.

Lucid also provided updates on its vehicle software. The latest Lucid UX 2.4 over-the-air (OTA) update includes an enhanced version of the Dream Drive Pro Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), a new voice control system, and improvements to the navigation system.

In addition to these announcements, Lucid confirmed that the Lucid Gravity SUV will come equipped with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) connector starting in 2025. This will allow access to more than 15,000 Superchargers. Production of the Lucid Gravity is set to begin later this year, with the vehicle expected to feature a spacious interior capable of seating up to seven adults.

Lucid also previewed its upcoming midsize platform vehicle, a new crossover that is designed to deliver competitive range using a smaller battery, thanks to Lucid’s advanced technology. The midsize vehicle is expected to go into production in late 2026, with a starting price under $50,000.
