Tesla has announced a recall for certain Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck vehicles due to a software compliance issue affecting the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The recall applies to Model 3 vehicles from model years 2017-2025, Model Y vehicles from model years 2020-2025, and model year 2024 Cybertruck vehicles. The software in these vehicles did not meet the requirements of FMVSS 138, S4.4(b)(3), which governs the operation of TPMS malfunction warnings.

The noncompliance relates to the TPMS malfunction warning, which fails to persist between drive cycles if the vehicle is turned off or asleep. This could prevent adequate warning of tire under-inflation, increasing the risk of a collision. To address this, Tesla began deploying an over-the-air (OTA) software update starting November 12, 2024. The updated software, release 2024.38.7 or later, ensures compliance with the regulatory requirements.

Owners can check if their vehicles are affected by this recall using the Tesla VIN Recall Search or the NHTSA VIN Recall Search tools. Vehicles running software release 2024.38.7 or later are compliant, and no additional action is needed. Owners can confirm their software version by selecting ‘Controls’ > ‘Software’ on their vehicle touchscreen or via the Tesla app.

No service appointment is required for this recall, as the issue is resolved through the OTA software update. However, if a software update fails to download or install, Tesla advises checking its software update FAQs or scheduling a service appointment for further assistance.
