Mopar presented several new concept vehicles at the 2024 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show in Las Vegas from November 5 to November 8. These concept vehicles were designed to showcase a range of appearance and performance modifications, particularly highlighting Mopar’s engineering capabilities and future designs for electrified vehicles and modified trucks. According to Mike Koval Jr., head of Mopar North America, the vehicles illustrate Mopar’s ongoing commitment to enhancing customer experience through high-quality, factory-backed parts and accessories for both traditional and electric vehicles.

One prominent feature at the SEMA show was the Plymouth GTX Electromod Concept. This 1967 Plymouth GTX concept was designed to demonstrate the potential of Mopar’s electric conversion kit technology, referred to as an e-Crate system, for enthusiasts who may want to convert classic and modern vehicles into battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). The vehicle was presented in a Frostbite Blue finish with a lowered stance and widened rear-wheel openings, giving it a contemporary look. Other exterior details include custom body-color bumpers, Satin Black exterior trim, and a custom carbon-fiber hood with dual air extractors, which references the original Plymouth GTX’s design.

The concept includes a modified carbon-fiber front splitter, rear spoiler, and a classic flip-top fuel cap, reimagined to serve as a charging port. It sits on 18-by-9-inch Vintage Bronze forged magnesium wheels fitted with Pirelli P-ZERO tires. The car’s braking system comprises Wilwood disc brakes on all four wheels. Its electric drive module (EDM) offers approximately 335 horsepower and is mounted with custom aluminum motor mounts. The vehicle is estimated to have a range of 250 miles.

The Plymouth GTX Electromod houses four battery packs with a combined capacity of 73 kilowatt-hours and a total of 384 lithium-ion cells. These batteries are distributed in three packs within a custom aluminum frame in the trunk and a fourth pack under the hood for optimal weight distribution. Each battery pack weighs around 230 pounds.

Inside, the Plymouth GTX Electromod features a redesigned interior that maintains classic design elements while adding modern upgrades. It includes a unique driver interface with custom gauges that display speed, battery charge level, drive-motor current, and coolant temperatures. The steering wheel was updated to a leather-wrapped, flat-bottom design finished in Vintage Bronze and IndiGo Blue leather with accent stitching.

Other interior changes include Vintage Bronze accents, manual window cranks, stainless-steel pedal covers, and supportive front seats sourced from a Jeep Wrangler, fitted for ease of access. The 2+2 seating arrangement features IndiGo Blue leather with Gunmetal suede inner bolsters. The center console now includes a rotary shift knob from the Dodge Durango, a cupholder from the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and an armrest, which did not exist in the original design.
