Cadillac has unveiled the SOLLEI concept vehicle, a luxury all-electric convertible designed to represent the future of bespoke automotive design. The Sollei is a 2+2 convertible that features Cadillac’s 55-inch pillar-to-pillar screen, sophisticated interior and exterior lighting systems, and intuitive command consoles for both front and rear passengers. The vehicle’s name combines “SOL” for “sun” and “LEI” for “leisure,” reflecting its design inspiration for an open-air, leisurely driving experience.
According to Erin Crossley, Cadillac’s design director, the Sollei concept aims to redefine travel by offering a personalized driving experience that connects with nature. It merges Cadillac’s legacy of elegant convertibles with contemporary luxury through innovative design elements.
A notable feature of the Sollei is its use of Fine Mycelium by MycoWorks, a bio-based material derived from mushrooms. This material is used in the vehicle’s charging mats and door map pockets, demonstrating Cadillac’s commitment to renewable resources in automotive design.
The exterior of the Sollei is characterized by a low, elongated body with a wide stance and long coupe doors for easy rear access. Its design includes uninterrupted surfaces and a stretched A-line to emphasize the vehicle’s length, with a low tail that adds to its dynamic yet elegant proportions. The exterior finish, named “Manila Cream,” revives a color used on Cadillacs in the late 1950s and is hand-painted by Cadillac craftsmen.
Inside, the Sollei adheres to Cadillac’s “art of travel” philosophy, enhancing the travel experience with features such as a fully integrated beverage chiller and crystal glasses. The interior decor features unstained wood veneers, illuminated accents, and unique embellishments, with the windshield framed in milled brushed aluminum.
The Sollei offers extensive personalization options, including ambient lighting with 126 color choices across multiple zones. It also includes a custom accessory for bird-watching enthusiasts, featuring a case with 3D printed acrylic bird calls, a leather-bound journal, and a leather tool roll that complements the vehicle’s interior.
The concept emphasizes travel optimism with sun-themed elements, such as sunburst-themed lighting and graphics, pink iridescent Nappa leather interior, and “Aurora” tint on metal finishes. It features a convertible metallic roof fabric named “Daybreak” and textured floormat material called “Bask,” contributing to the light, airy feel of the interior.
The Sollei concept was revealed at Cadillac House at Vanderbilt, GM’s Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan. This venue is dedicated to providing a bespoke design experience for Cadillac Celestiq clients, underscoring Cadillac’s vision of modern design in an open-air format, inspired by the brand’s iconic past.
