Nissan has announced a minor update to the Ariya electric crossover and the Ariya Nismo performance variant for the Japanese market. The revised Nissan Ariya will go on sale in Japan on February 20, while the updated Ariya Nismo will follow on March 19. Both vehicles receive a combination of exterior design revisions, interior updates, technology enhancements, and changes aimed at improving ride comfort and usability.
First introduced in 2021, the Ariya serves as Nissan’s flagship battery-electric vehicle and plays a central role in the brand’s EV strategy. The model has been positioned as a premium electric crossover, emphasizing smooth acceleration, low noise levels typical of EVs, and a lounge-like interior layout. The latest update does not change the vehicle’s core architecture or drivetrain lineup, but instead focuses on refinement and added functionality.

One of the most visible changes is to the exterior design, particularly at the front of the vehicle. Nissan has revised the front fascia while maintaining the design language it describes as “Timeless Japanese Futurism.” The grille area is now finished in body color, creating a more seamless appearance and reducing visual separation between panels. The V-motion design element has been repositioned toward the outer edges of the front end, giving the vehicle a simpler but more assertive look. These changes are intended to modernize the Ariya’s appearance while keeping it consistent with earlier models.
The updated Ariya also introduces newly designed 20-inch wheels that combine aluminum and resin materials. Rather than emphasizing aggressive styling, the wheel design uses finer detailing to contrast with the vehicle’s overall clean and sculpted body surfaces. Nissan states that this approach is meant to enhance the vehicle’s premium character rather than draw attention solely to the wheels themselves.

Color options have also been expanded. A new two-tone exterior color called “Hisuinohikari,” inspired by aurora-like light effects, pairs Plasma Green with Midnight Black. Nissan describes this color as reflecting both the quietness and strength associated with electric vehicles. In addition to this new option, the Ariya lineup includes two other two-tone combinations and five monotone exterior colors, giving buyers a range of aesthetic choices.
Inside the cabin, Nissan has added a new White and Green interior color scheme. This interior uses newly developed green leather with a subdued tone, contrasted with light gray elements. The result is a modern and restrained interior environment that aligns with the Ariya’s positioning as a premium EV. The update does not significantly alter the overall layout of the cabin, which continues to emphasize open space and a flat floor made possible by the vehicle’s electric platform.

Beyond visual updates, the revised Ariya introduces several technology features aimed at enhancing everyday usability and EV ownership. Both the standard Ariya and the Ariya Nismo now adopt a NissanConnect infotainment system with built-in Google functionality. This system supports Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play, allowing drivers to access navigation, voice commands, and compatible applications directly through the vehicle interface.
By synchronizing a Google account with the navigation system, drivers can view saved destinations, preferred routes, and navigation history within the vehicle. The system can also assist with route planning that takes charging requirements into account, helping drivers identify charging stops along the way. Nissan’s NissanConnect Services app further supports this functionality through a door-to-door navigation feature. This allows a route, including necessary charging stops based on the current battery state, to be planned before entering the vehicle and then sent directly to the car’s navigation system.

The updated Ariya also introduces a navigation-linked battery conditioning function. When a charging stop is set as part of the route, the system can automatically manage battery temperature to improve charging efficiency and potentially increase charging speed upon arrival. This feature is designed to optimize energy use and reduce waiting times during fast charging sessions, particularly in colder conditions.
Another notable addition is vehicle-to-load capability. Using an AC external power supply connector attached to the charging port, the Ariya can provide up to 1,500 watts of power even while the vehicle is locked. This allows the vehicle to power electrical devices for outdoor activities or serve as a temporary power source during emergencies. While V2L functionality has appeared on other EVs in recent years, its inclusion in the Ariya adds a practical use case beyond daily driving.

Ride comfort has also been addressed in this update. Nissan states that suspension tuning has been optimized specifically for Japanese road conditions, with an emphasis on improving ride quality. The revised setup is intended to reduce body movement caused by road surface inputs and minimize the amount of vibration transmitted to occupants. These changes are aimed at providing a more refined driving experience, particularly during longer trips.
The updated Ariya further adds an intelligent distance control system. This feature helps maintain a consistent following distance from the vehicle ahead, even during frequent acceleration and deceleration in urban driving conditions. The system can support deceleration down to a complete stop, reducing driver workload in traffic and contributing to a smoother driving experience overall.
The Ariya Nismo receives many of the same updates introduced on the standard model, including the Google-based NissanConnect infotainment system, the AC external power supply connector, and intelligent distance control. In addition, the Nismo variant retains its performance-focused character. Based on the Ariya e-4ORCE all-wheel-drive configuration, the Ariya Nismo features Nismo-specific acceleration tuning and a dedicated version of Nissan’s electric four-wheel control technology known as “Nismo tuned e-4ORCE.”

This system is designed to deliver sharper handling and more responsive vehicle behavior, with Nissan positioning the Ariya Nismo as the flagship of its EV performance lineup. While the update does not introduce new power output figures, Nissan emphasizes that the Ariya Nismo continues to offer higher dynamic capability compared with the standard model, now paired with additional convenience and connectivity features.
Pricing for the updated Nissan Ariya in Japan has been announced, while pricing for the Ariya Nismo will be disclosed at a later date. The standard Ariya lineup includes four main configurations. The two-wheel-drive Ariya B6 is priced at ¥6,675,900, which converts to approximately $44,500 USD. The two-wheel-drive Ariya B9 is priced at ¥7,467,900, or about $49,800 USD. The all-wheel-drive Ariya B6 e-4ORCE starts at ¥7,280,900, roughly $48,500 USD, while the Ariya B9 e-4ORCE is priced at ¥8,072,900, or approximately $53,800 USD.

The B6 models are equipped with a 66-kilowatt-hour battery, while the B9 models use a larger 91-kilowatt-hour battery. Nissan notes that these figures represent total battery energy capacity as defined by United Nations transport regulations, rather than usable capacity.
With this update, Nissan continues to refine the Ariya rather than reposition it. The changes focus on visual updates, improved ride comfort, expanded digital functionality, and added utility features that reflect evolving expectations for modern electric vehicles. For the Japanese market, the updated Ariya and Ariya Nismo aim to build on the model’s existing strengths while addressing areas such as connectivity, charging convenience, and everyday comfort.
