Nissan has announced that drivers of its Ariya electric vehicles will gain access to Tesla’s Supercharger network starting December 10. This integration will add 17,800 Tesla Superchargers to the existing Nissan Energy Charge Network (NECN), which now offers more than 100,000 public charging stations across the United States and 25,000 in Canada.
To access the Tesla Superchargers, Nissan EV owners will require a North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapter kit. The adapter, priced at $235, is available for order through Nissan dealerships and online at NissanUSA.com. Additionally, Nissan plans to equip its EV models for the U.S. and Canadian markets with a built-in NACS port beginning in 2025.
The NECN also provides access to other major charging networks, including Electrify America, Shell Recharge, ChargePoint, and EVgo in the U.S., and ChargeHub, FLO, BC Hydro, and others in Canada. The inclusion of Tesla Superchargers broadens the accessibility for Nissan Ariya drivers and aims to simplify the charging process.
The MyNissan app has been updated to support this network expansion. Ariya owners can use the app to locate charging stations, check availability, and initiate charging sessions. Payments can be made directly within the app by storing a default payment method. These features aim to streamline EV ownership. However, the updated app functionality is not currently available to Nissan Leaf owners, who must use the NissanConnect EV and Services app to search for charging locations.
Editor’s note: While Nissan sells an “official” charging adapter, any CCS to Supercharger adapter should work without issue, just like on Ford, GM, and Rivian products. The Typhoon Pro has been around for awhile and is recognized within the EV community and is less expensive.
