Nissan has released additional information about the third-generation Leaf, which was first revealed in May 2024. The vehicle has been redesigned and will continue to be built in Sunderland, U.K. for European markets, where production of the first generation began in 2013. According to Nissan, the vehicle is based on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance’s CMF-EV platform, which is shared with the Nissan Ariya and Renault Megane E-Tech Electric.
The third-generation Leaf will offer multiple powertrain options. These include front-wheel-drive variants with outputs ranging from 148 to 215 horsepower, as well as an all-wheel-drive version that produces 335 horsepower. Nissan states that range estimates will vary depending on the selected configuration but has not disclosed official figures. The vehicle will feature advanced driver assistance systems and bidirectional charging capabilities, though Nissan did not provide details on which features will be standard or optional.
The exterior design draws on styling cues from the Nissan Chill-Out concept first shown in 2021. Nissan has confirmed that the Leaf will be equipped with LED lighting, flush door handles, and aerodynamic alloy wheels. Inside, the vehicle includes a digital instrument cluster and a central touchscreen. Nissan indicates that sustainable materials will be used in the cabin, but did not elaborate.
Production of the new Leaf is scheduled to begin later in 2025. Nissan has not released pricing information or details about markets outside of Europe.
