Nissan has made a splash at the 2022 SEMA Show with the debut of the Surfwagon, a unique concept vehicle that blends retro styling with modern electric technology. The Surfwagon, based on the Nissan Ariya electric SUV, is designed to evoke the spirit of classic surf culture while showcasing Nissan’s commitment to innovation and sustainability.

The Surfwagon concept transforms the sleek, futuristic Ariya into a nostalgic throwback to the wood-paneled wagons that were synonymous with beach life in the mid-20th century. The exterior features a custom woodgrain wrap along the sides, reminiscent of the “woodie” wagons that were a staple for surfers decades ago. This distinctive look is complemented by retro-inspired colors, custom wheels, and surfboard racks mounted on the roof, making the Surfwagon the perfect blend of past and future.

Inside, the Surfwagon maintains the modern, tech-forward interior of the Nissan Ariya, but with a few unique touches that enhance its retro charm. The cabin is outfitted with vintage-style upholstery, and additional surf-themed accents bring the beachy vibe to life. Despite its nostalgic design cues, the Surfwagon is equipped with all the advanced technology found in the standard Ariya, including a high-tech infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and Nissan’s suite of driver assistance features.

Underneath its retro exterior, the Surfwagon retains the electric powertrain of the Nissan Ariya, providing zero-emissions driving with the same performance and range capabilities. This concept not only pays homage to surf culture but also highlights the versatility of electric vehicles in adapting to different lifestyles and aesthetics.

The Surfwagon’s debut at SEMA underscores Nissan’s creativity and willingness to experiment with bold, unconventional ideas. It also reflects the growing trend of integrating electric vehicles into various subcultures and communities, demonstrating that EVs can be both stylish and environmentally friendly.

By combining the iconic look of classic surf wagons with the advanced technology of the Nissan Ariya, the Surfwagon concept is a fun and innovative way to engage with automotive enthusiasts and showcase the potential of electric vehicles in a new light.
