Kia America has announced the introduction of a new charging feature called Plug & Charge, which is designed to simplify the public charging process for electric vehicle owners. The technology will be available through Kia Charge Pass and is integrated into the company’s connected vehicle platform. It enables automatic vehicle authentication and billing at compatible charging stations without requiring additional cards, apps, or manual steps.
The feature will first be available on eligible 2025 EV6 models by the end of September 2025, followed by eligible 2026 EV9 models in the fourth quarter of the year. Owners will be notified once the feature is enabled for their vehicles.
To use the system, drivers must activate Plug & Charge through the Kia Access app. Once activated, the vehicle and charging station automatically recognize each other, begin charging, and process payment in the background. Authentication is conducted to ensure that only authorized vehicles can initiate charging.
Participation in the program requires an active Kia Connect subscription, enrollment in the Kia Charge Pass program, and a default payment method on file. Only certain charging stations support the service. More information, including eligible stations, is available through Kia’s official website.
