Polestar has officially unveiled the Polestar 5, a four-door electric performance grand tourer developed from the Precept concept first shown in 2020. The production model introduces a new bonded aluminum platform, in-house electric motors, and an 800-volt electrical architecture designed to deliver high output and fast-charging capabilities.
The Polestar 5 will be available in two configurations: the Dual Motor model with 550 kW (748 hp) and the Performance variant producing 650 kW (884 hp). Both feature a peak torque output of up to 1,015 Nm (749 lb-ft) and share a 112 kWh lithium-ion NMC battery pack. According to Polestar, the Performance version accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds, while the standard Dual Motor model completes the sprint in 3.8 seconds. Top speed for both versions is electronically limited to 155 mph.
Built on the new Polestar Performance Architecture, the vehicle uses a hot-cured bonded aluminum structure that is lighter than steel and contributes to improved torsional rigidity. The architecture integrates the battery as part of the structure and supports charging rates up to 350 kW using an 800-volt system. Under ideal conditions, Polestar estimates a 10-80% DC fast charge in approximately 22 minutes.
The exterior design retains much of the styling of the original Precept concept, featuring a low-profile aerodynamic shape, frameless glass, and retractable door handles. The car incorporates Pixel LED headlights and a full-width rear lightbar designed for airflow efficiency. Six exterior colors will be offered, including two matte finishes: Storm and Magnesium.
Inside, the Polestar 5 features a 4+1 seating arrangement with front seats co-developed with Recaro. Standard materials include Charcoal MicroTech upholstery, with optional Bridge of Weir Nappa leather in Charcoal or Zinc. Rear passengers have access to individual climate, heating, ventilation, and massage controls. Sustainable materials are used extensively throughout the cabin, including bio-based composites, recycled PET, and Econyl carpeting.
The infotainment system operates on Android Automotive OS with Google built-in, displayed on a 14.5-inch central screen paired with a 9-inch driver display and a 9.5-inch head-up display. Audio options include a standard 10-speaker Polestar High Performance system or an available 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins setup.
Advanced driver-assistance features are integrated into the vehicle’s SmartZone, which houses sensors, cameras, and radar equipment. The system supports Pilot Assist for semi-automated driving at speeds up to 93 mph. Safety equipment includes 11 vision cameras, a driver monitoring camera, a mid-range radar, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and eight airbags.
Polestar states that orders for the Polestar 5 are open now in select global markets, with pricing and North American availability to be announced at a later date.
