Polestar has launched a campaign in partnership with Climate Week NYC to highlight the impact of combustion engine vehicles on society. The effort began on September 22, 2025, with posters placed around New York City and content distributed across social media channels. Messaging includes phrases such as “Dinosaur juice addict?” and promotes a hotline providing information about fossil fuels and alternatives.
Fredrika Klarén, Polestar’s Head of Sustainability, is scheduled to speak at Climate Week NYC’s flagship panel, “The Challenge, the Change and the Tech.” Klarén stated that while some automakers are retreating from earlier environmental goals, Polestar intends to continue emphasizing the need to transition from combustion engines to electric vehicles.

The company noted that large cities such as New York experience some of the most visible effects of vehicle emissions. More than 500,000 cars enter central Manhattan each day, and Polestar suggests that shifting to electric vehicles could improve air quality and reduce noise.
Polestar’s participation in Climate Week NYC builds on prior initiatives such as the Polestar 0 project, which aims to produce a climate-neutral car without offsets. The automaker recently introduced the Polestar 5, a performance GT manufactured with 83 percent aluminum sourced from smelters using renewable electricity and 13 percent recycled aluminum.

Data referenced in the campaign shows that battery electric vehicles emit approximately 73 percent less CO2-equivalent over their lifetime compared to gasoline cars when charged on the projected European electricity mix from 2025 to 2044. Fuel for private cars and vans represents more than a quarter of global oil use, and road transport accounts for over 15 percent of energy-related emissions worldwide. Despite this, electric vehicles represented only 20 percent of global new car sales in 2024.
Polestar currently sells three models—the Polestar 2, Polestar 3, and Polestar 4—and has additional models planned, including the Polestar 5, 6, and 7. The company operates in 28 global markets and manufactures vehicles in North America and Asia, with future production of the Polestar 7 planned for Europe. Polestar has set climate targets to halve greenhouse gas emissions per vehicle sold by 2030 and achieve climate neutrality across its value chain by 2040.
